Roger books spot in quarters

01.08.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the London Olympics with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin today.

Even though Roger was not at his absolute best, he secured a clear victory today in his quest for a first gold medal in the singles. Play only started after a rain delay of over an hour. Roger found an excellent start, breaking right in the second game. But his 3-0 lead then melted as Istomin broke back and Roger had to save two break points at 5-5 to then finally go all the way, securing the set with his third set point. Another early break in the second set was then enough for our champ to wrap up the encounter after 1 hour and 21 minutes.

Roger will now play John Isner or Janko Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals.

Hi, MAWWT and other fellow Singaporeans on this site.
How do you get to see the doubles match when there's nothing on TV. Even the singles match is not beamed when it's not on Centre Court. I would be happy to know of your source if you would like to share. Even websites are hopeless. Thank you.

TU POSEES LA TECNICA, LA INTELIGENCIA, LA BELLEZA EN TU JUEGO Y LA FUERZA TAMBIEN PARA DERROTAR A ISNER. EL ES SOBRE TODO FUERZA EN EL SAQUE, UNA BUENA DEFENSA Y LO DESCONCENTRAS. VAMOS ROGER A GANAR. MANTENTE BIEN FISICA Y MENTALMENTE.

CONFIO EN TI, YA LO VENCISTE ANTES. SOLO CONCENTRATE EN ESE PARTIDO, SOLO EN GANARLO, SIN PENSAR EN NADA MAS, NI QUE VIENE CON ESO, SE AGRESIVO, TOMA LA INICIATIVA, NO LO DEJES PENSAR NI REACCIONAR, NEUTRALIZA SUS SAQUES. Y ASEGURA LOS TUYOS. DIOS ESTA CONTIGO!

ROGER FELICIDADES POR EL TRIUNFO CONTRA ISTOMIN, AHORA BIEN OTRO GRAN DESAFIO, PERO YA HAS JUGADO CON ISNER Y LE GANASTE EN LA FINAL DE INDIAN WELLS, SABES COMO HACERLO. MIS MEJORES DESEOS UTILIZA LOS DONES CON LOS QUE DIOS TE HA BENDECIDO, EL TALENTO QUE TE HA BRINDADO Y TODO SERA MAS FACIL, SIEMPRE PENSANDO EN DIOS, CADA PUNTO, CADA JUEGO OFRECELO A EL, Y SABRA RECOMPENSARTE.

VAS A GANAR A ISNER EL 02AGO2012, PERO MANTENTE CONCENTRADO, NO DES VENTAJA, BUSCA LAS OPORTUNIDADES, TU SABES COMO.

Most players bring some weapons, and some bring a few big ones. Your next rival is a big server, and can run some, and do a few other things. But you see where you can strike, an apart from that, you an see the strategy and the tactics to carry out your success. Make him run around in small, low, circles!LOL! Confine, surprise, and overwhelm, as you can. It's within your powers, and more! Luck, and Godspeed!

Roger, once again you inspire us with your eloquence on the tennis court! You're not only the #1 athlete in the world, but you are a gentleman of integrity and class, and it shows every time you put a tennis racket in your hand. Keep the faith in the quarters. I may be from the USA, but I will be Swiss at heart during your tournament. Thank you, Roger, for inspiring the sports world with your special talent and your incredible character. Keep up the fight champ!!!
