Roger books spot in quarters

Roger booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the London Olympics with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin today.

Even though Roger was not at his absolute best, he secured a clear victory today in his quest for a first gold medal in the singles. Play only started after a rain delay of over an hour. Roger found an excellent start, breaking right in the second game. But his 3-0 lead then melted as Istomin broke back and Roger had to save two break points at 5-5 to then finally go all the way, securing the set with his third set point. Another early break in the second set was then enough for our champ to wrap up the encounter after 1 hour and 21 minutes. 

Roger will now play John Isner or Janko Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals.

I thought Tipsareic was your next opponenet but I just found out it will be Isner. The T V went off the tennis before their match played. so the same stands for you against Isner best of luck and know we are all here for you.

Loved your match today against Istomin you did look a little sluggish hope your day of rest tomorrow gives you back that energy you had earlier in the week. So sorry about you and Stan losing I thought for sure you had it hands down but that other team really exploded. Hopefully you will shake off that loss and be your wonderfu lsmiling face against Tipsarevic. Your fans love you and we are all rooting for you to continue your quest for the gold.

So sorry that you didn't win your double match. After all, your opponents were a lot more experienced and that should help you just a tiny bit.
