Olympic semifinals

Roger beat John Isner 6-4, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tennis tournament today - bringing him just one more win away from a first Olympic medal in singles.

 

"Being in the medal matches, at least I'll get two shots," Roger said. "That's why I looked at this match as a final. You can imagine the relief and happiness I feel right now."

Isner's serve kept Roger working hard, but our champ eventually found a way through in the ninth game of the first set. But Roger had to keep going strong as he still had to save a break point himself before then serving out the set. The second set also proved a tight run, going into a tie-break - with Roger getting a stroke of luck in just the right moment.

 

Our world number one will play Juan Martin del Potro in the semis on Friday. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will play each other in the other semifinal.

Dear fellow RF fans,

Please don't write something like "Roger is out" when he is fighting. It is so misleading and heartattacking to those who don't have good access to live streaming or live score. And it is even insulting to Roger Federer.
Sorry for my strong words.

Bravo. Just can't be happier.
I've waited for the right time to say it, and this seems to be the right time.
Endurance often comes with age There are physiological reasons for it.
That's why it's rare to see teenage champions in marathon, but thirty somethings are not uncommon.
With your hard work, and other fine adjustment, like less caffeine, I believe that your record for long final sets like this, or five set record, will be better after age 30, than before 30. Just like this one. Enjo

Let these boys and girls who belongs to King Roger around the world. Our King of Tennis is old in age in this ball-playing world, but he is young in mind,and prove that he still have the vitality of the young players. He got it. Therefore, as we are his fans, or you are not his fans. We should learn his determination. Although he has made a lot of mistake.

I don't know about everyone else who watched that but I feel totally washed out and exhausted after that. Goodness what Roger feels like. Del Potro must feel awful. Hope he win the bronze. He deserves something for a quite amazing effort. Poor guy.
So happy for Roger though!
