Olympic silver or gold!

03.08.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger made his dream for an Olympic medal come true today, winning the longest tennis singles match in Olympic history! He defeated Juan Del Potro 3-6, 7-6, 19-17 after four hours and 26 minutes of play.

Roger and Del Potro showed an incredibly dramatic semi-final today, with Del Potro scoring the a break in the first set to give him the advantage he needed. Roger won the tie-break of the second set, and then things really went wild. Del Potro missed a shot and gave our champ his first service break of the afternoon, after over three hours of play, and the chance to serve for the match at 10-9. But the Argentinian broke back - at love - to stay in the match. Only 16 (!) games later did Roger then earn himself the second chance to close out the match.

Roger will next face the winner of the other semifinal between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic in the quest for an Olympic gold medal on Sunday.

so grcious! Roger Federer speaks

The beaten finalist has spoken to the BBC, and he's predictably gracious, particularly when asked about the key game, the third of the second set which lasted for 20 minutes – "He was already a break up."

"He did play very well. He was better, much better than I was. I had a very emotional tournament for the first round on. Maybe I was emotionally drained a little bit, maybe I left a little bit too much on court. Andy played really well, made good sho

Dearest Roger,
Sorry it wasn't Gold you wanted. But I am so proud of you. You made all the efforts you could make. At least one of your dreams has come true. I, for one, prefer 7th Wimbledon title rather than Olymic Gold.
And do you know something? In Japanese kanji, gin(silver)is 銀:which means it is better(良)than kin(gold) 金. Leave something for the future. Don't accomplish everything.
Thank you, my brave one. I love you and am so proud of you.

Roger, congratulations on the Silver!! We have to stop questioning your desire and motivation because NO ONE on the board knows what it takes to play at your level for so many years. There are no excuses, but I know you are so tired, it is not always about the physical level. Again, congratulations. If there is anyone who looks at this in a negative view, then they are unaware of your achievements this year. You are still WN 1!!!

Roger, I am so sad, you got so far, but nothing much worked for you. Both Delpo and Murray played very well to beat you. So pleased that Delpo got bronze. I have been so convinced over the last years the gold was going to be yours, but never mind , silver is not a failure and is good.
You must be exhausted, have a lovely, restful holiday, good birthday you are our no.1!
