Unfortunately there was no good news at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in Basel on Tuesday: Roger has had to cancel his participation due to a torn muscle fibre in his left thigh. It is certainly a very disappointing situation for the local star. Roger’s participation at the Masters in Houston does not seem to be at risk, “I even hope to be able to play again in Paris already” he said in the evening. Roger first noticed something to be different than usual in his thigh on Monday. “During the training session the area suddenly felt sore.” He then interrupted the training straight away only for the pain to return on Tuesday morning during the final training session. “It became clear to me that it was more than just a sore muscle at that point.” Not being able to play at his home tournament is “incredibly frustrating” for Roger, particularly as he already entered with the drawback of a back-injury last year. On the occasion of the draw on Monday he had talked about how well he was prepared. Has he been training too hard? “Certainly not, I actually trained very moderately these past few days – two hours of tennis and one hour of fitness training a day. I think the muscle injury is rather the result of overload throughout the entire season.” In 2004 Roger played 75 singles so far, winning 69 of them. Get well soon, Roger!
