Cincinnati: The draw

13.08.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The result of the draw for the Masters-1000 tournament in Cincinnati is quite favourable for Roger.

After a first-round bye he will either play his first match against Jarkko Nieminen (ATP 41) or Alex Bogomolow (ATP 58) - he has never lost against either of the two so far. Philipp Kohlschreiber (ATP 18) could then be waiting in the the round of the last 16 and a clash with Juan Monaco (ATP 10) might follow in the quarters. Roger has also been able to defeat these two players every time in the past. David Ferrer (ATP 5, Roger leads the head-to-head 13:0) or Thomas Berdych (ATP 7) could then be waiting in the semis, before his opponent in the final could be defending champion Andy Murray (ATP 4).

Our world number one will be aiming at his fifth victory in Cincinnati after 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Good luck in Cincinnati, Rog. Always rooting for you. I agree with Jodoug. Everything now is icing on the cake. I am looking forward to watching you play here in New York as I do every year.

Just pipping them with a handful of points can make them hungrier,
but widening the lead by a thousand points or two, may deflate them.

to me rog,s aim was to beat pete for weeks at #1. mission accomplished and then some. the other top 3 look bad getting beat by someone 5-6 yrs older than them for the #1 spot. rog is the GOAT. his legacy is secure. anything he does now is icing on the cake. these 3 should be hungier than him trying to make their legacy. rog held #1 for 4 & 1/2 yrs in a row. can't see either of them doing that. whether he keeps #1 or not now doesn't matter. he is so far ahead they'll never catch him.

Speaking of history, I hope Rog will find the time to play at the SAP Open in the heart of Silicon Valley. Started in 1889,it's the 2nd oldest tennis tourny in the USA.
Laver, Ashe, Edberg, Sampras, McEnroe,Lendl,Connors,Hewitt, Agassi all played there. Plus, the twin girls will love the nearby San Francisco-- kids' science exploratorium, mariner for special kite flying, scenic spots, shopping for Mirka. If Rog wants to stay longer, I'm sure Stanford can open tennis practice courts just for him
