Semis against Stan

Roger notched up a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory against Mardy Fish at the Cincinnati Masters and will now play his friend and Olympic doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka.

“Playing an American here in America, it's always special. It was pretty straightforward. Whoever was going to be more aggressive, serve more consistent, and then play maybe a tiny bit better from the baseline was probably going to win. I'm happy I was that guy tonight.”

Roger showed an excellent tennis-display, breaking Fish on the first occasion with three impressive winners. He swiped his entire serves without any problems, winning 93% of the points on his first serve. He secured one more break in the last game of the set to clearly book it 6-3. Fish raised his level of play in the second set, but Roger was finally able to click the set in the tie-break.

Next up is Stanislas Wawrinka who sent Milos Raonic home in three sets. Roger holds a 10-1 record against Stan.

That was a wonderful first set and an even better second set as Fish's play got better but your hold on the match did not falter.

CONGRATS, great match, but here's some kind advice: YOU BETTER PLAY OFF-GUARD SHOTS, FOOLING THE OPPONENT AND TAKING YOUR OPPONENT BY SURPRISE. DON'T TRY TO GET INTO RALLIES WITH PREDICTABLE DIRECTION OF SHOTS, PLEASE !!!! Good Luck !!!

What a great match Roger...You played really well, some of your shots were quite breathtaking! Sadly Mardy found out why you are #1 ! You really are special. Good luck against Stan. I know it must be difficult to play against a good friend, but do your best and lets get another title in Cincy! Best Wishes Always.
