Roger cruised into round three at the US Open with a very clear 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Germany's Bjorn Phau today.
“It was a great match for me,” Roger said after the match. “Bjorn had some incredible shot-making."
Top-seeded Roger needed only 90 minutes to close out the match and showed glimpse of his abilities to outclass Phau in their fourth encounter. He finished with 44 winners to 16 for his overmatched opponent and also with 15 aces.
Roger will play Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the third round on Saturday and said: "The next match with Verdasco will be another tough one. He’s a guy who has been around a long time and had some big wins. He’s a lefty, so that makes things different.”
Congratulations! What a match!!! So beautiful, so nice shots, bothsides!! I enjouyed watching it! It didn't look like that ugly, aggressive, so called up to date tennis! I think everybody likes such magical play!

Very well done Roger, a very efficiently won match. Every time we think we have seen all your shots, you come out with more, there is no stopping you. Like everyone else, the backhand smash made me chuckle, I love it and it is so effective. What other shots have you got hidden in your cupboard Roger? You seem to have a rummage now and again and find something else! Good luck against Verdasco tomorrow.
