Roger walks into last eight

Roger advanced into his 34th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final today as Mardy Fish had to withdraw from their US Open match due to health issues. Fish has been experiencing heart-problems and had already taken a two-month break from the Tour beginning of this year. 

The walkover stretched Roger's record for quarter-final Grand Slam appearances in the Open era to 38, three short of the record 41 by Jimmy Connors.

Roger will play his quarter-final against Tomas Berdych on Wednesday. Our champion has won 11 of their 15 encounters so far.

Hello Roger,

Mixed feelings about this easy 'victory', because I would have preferred watching you play a good match against Mardy. Mixed feelings also because of the health concerns for Mardy Fish. I hope he will recover soon.
I am happy to see that you look so fit and healthy and that you are playing so well. Being No. 1 again clearly becomes you very well :-)!

I am looking forward to your next match against Tomas Berdych and wish you all the very best for it.

The NY Times article stated that after a match, you will do interviews in three languages - english, swiss-german and french. Instead of 20-30 minutes with most tennis players, you will do an hour or so. That you are the most interviewed sportsman. Ever. And... that you do 150 interviews a month. A good article. A good read.

Gee ! And your are not even running for a political office. The press must love interviewing you. You are always so cordial and respectful of everyone.

Congratulations on advancing to the quarter-finals. Good to have a rest. Sad about Mardy Fish, he has been doing a turn around on his career in the last two years.

Good luck in quarter-finals match against Berdych. A whilee player, who always saves his best tennis for you. Funny that. Remember Sydney Olympics and Wimbledon. Stay hungry.
