Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

When you admit to thinking, "so many moments" you are thinking about the last point, that's the reason you lost --- not because you're 31. Many many multiple grand slam winners have commented on the fact that you played as good as you ever did when you were playing your best at Wimbledon & at the Olympics. You always shanked some balls now and then even at your peak. If after every ball you shanked, you said the same thing quoted up here, you would lose, even at your peak. No difference now.

Rog:I expect to hear you say the following, but it's long coming. So, let me say something that you should know better than me.Any time you are thinking about the last point, you will lose.Doesn't matter WHAT kind of excuse you're giving yourself for the last point, or whether you're 21, 26, or 31.It will become a self-fulfilling prophesy. I don't have time to debate how meritless is every negative thought & comment that appears on your website, like I used to. no reason to use my time that way.

Its just a miss!! Now the Genius focus will be on Berdych at least for some time sure. This will only bring more problems to Berdych. This happened in past as well. when Berdych & Tsonga beat Federer in Quarters of Wimledon, He later brought more aggression against them which prevented them in many title games there after. This lose will only make federer come more stronger and sweep the year end tournaments.
