Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

No worries Roger. You have done a good job this year by winning 6 tournaments. So this is not a really big deal in a way :)

Hope to see u in Davis Cup action.

Roger only lost a match, sometimes it happens, unfortunately it was the quarter of the USO. Perhaps Berdy played a match of his life since he didn't make the final. Roger is the greatest, he will come back stronger.

Hey, J O S, this must stand for Jackass Of Sanity, don't ever write here and expose your insanity, pleeeeeaaaase. This is Roger Federer you are talking about , remember, the guy with the 17 slams on his racket! Have the HONESTY to admit that you don't belong here!!!

Rog:You used to take pride in your honesty, which you called your greatest strength. That's when you were winning 3 GSs a yr. How come you are not as honest with yourself any more?Nor is Mirka, unfortunately.Did all the sponsors & money water down your honesty, hence your greatest strength.
You said it before and it's absolutely true. Tiebreaks are ALL about mental strength. You lost the TB solely because you let the false belief, that being >30 will stop you from winning like before, get to you.

I had a feeling that this outcome would happen due to Roger's lack of playtime. However, all is not lost -- he still has the #1 ranking, and he's still and always will be "simply the best".

I'm really happy for Murray and I must say that I was glad that he didn't win his first major against our Federer because the Brads' and Johns' would never stop with the "he took out Federer crap".

Now I'm ready for Roger's next tournament -- I just love his style!!!

The fact is: Roger won against both Nole and Andy two months agon.
The fact is: Roger can't reach semi-final. What a pity.

Murray should definitely thank Berdych for defeating Federer and Nadal for not playing the tournament. For the past several years, Federer and Nadal have been bugging Murray in semifinals and finals but in this tournament they were not present. This is not a real victory for Murray but he played very well in the tournament.
