Roger out in quarters

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

Hi, Roger, I haven't been able to recover from the shock yet. You have been playing so well on hard court this season, Dubai,Indianwells,Cincinnati! I counldn't find out why you played a not good match like this .It's a pity and unfair you haven't won a hardcourt slam for so long! You deserve to win more hardcourt slams! I hope you can win one next season. Also best wishes for the remainder of the season! Love always

I think slowing down of courts over the years is the reason for your losses in gs in the recent years.I don't understand what the itf people want to achieve by this move But you will always be a champion for us.Hope you will reclaim your wimbledon title next year.Good luck

I'm so disappointed for you, Roger, but don't let it take the shine off your wonderful year. It seemed there was something wrong even when you were practising. Annabel Croft of Skysport said you seemed very down or in a troubled mood and didn't seem happy. I do hope all is well and that you can have a good rest and reflect on how great it is that you'll reach 300 weeks at No 1.
You'll bounce back I'm sure - look forward to seeing you again in October.

I don't think i'll be watching the rest of the U.S Open matches.
But still it was a bad day for you Roger. It happens and you just can't do much about it.
Can't wait to see you back on court. :)

thanks hughsie...i was actually pissed off this article by paul newmann in "the independent" and some of the other "british" articles on roger...and i have to write something against them....they shud have known by now that roger gives a damn about them and he has proved them wrong again and again....and so here we go AGAIN

I agree with you that it is Roger and Roger alone who will decide when he retires--he may not know himself.
Myself and family we have enjoyed every aspect of his game many more years than many in the media, commentators and so called fans--we did not commence watching him when he was already no 1 BUT as a young teenager.We will continue to
support him for as long as he plays without criticism.
