Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

Murray should definitely thank Berdych for defeating Federer and Nadal for not playing the tournament. For the past several years, Federer and Nadal have been bugging Murray in semifinals and finals but in this tournament they were not present. This is not a real victory for Murray but he played very well in the tournament.

BT Infin ity, you are wrong. atptennis.com has him in number one, but if you go inside rankings, it shows Fed #1 with 11805 points; Nole #2 with 10 470; Murray #3 with 8570, and Rafa 4 with 7515. (he lost last years UOO points for not defending them). I don't know why they have it wrong (rfesentment?) Unless they refer to just this year for the final. It's stupid what is on the webpage, this has been the only time I see that...

Roger, just think about it, if you keep your # 1 position up to 312 weeks, that would mean you have been Number One for 6 years!!!! That is an amazing feat your are closed to accomplish. Either way you have to congratulate yourself. In Tennis, it looks like there should be a little for every one. (I guess in all sports, right?) That happened in the Olympics. But keep on. You have been a wonderful tennis master.. and your competitors have been your disciples. Look forward to end the year #1 :-)

P.S. I wonder what Rog thought when he saw Djoko try to pull off the one- in- a- million shot on match point only to float long . Thankfully TheChamp will Re-bound back with more game then ever and I would say hungrier but I'm not sure that is possible .

Roseline I couldn't have verbalized my feeling better about not watching the matches(after Rog exited) I just saw the highlights of that mach and finally had a tear . I want to purchase the tennis channel so i can view more of the GrandMasters matches and stop this post uso ill feeling, but the cable company wants to make me buy the "sports package" . I'am like why would I want to watch that other stuff.

I really don't much care who won the USO, since you didn't, Roger, though I'd have preferred it to be the Djoker. I can't watch such players as they lack your beautiful play and your charm. At least it seems the result aids your No.1 ranking. Onto the autumn season, your WTF No.7 and your trip to S.America!
