Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

Lets just keep this in perspective as well and remember the last time Roger got knocked out in the quarters of a slam he went on to win that grand slam finale(Wimbledon) the next year. Come on Rog! Float on grand master ( as you always appear to be on court)

I have yet to be lifted out of my feeling of complete despair. I feel somewhat responsible , considering i didn't follow my pre-Federer grand slam match routine in which directly before sir Roger takes the court I shower, tidy up the t.v. room and have a nice pipe full or two. This time I got home as the match was starting. Oh Roger I love you, and hope you completely blame me for the loss. Your going to dismantle Berdych next time you meet no matter how on his game he is.

My wish of course was for Roger to win, but under the circumstances I had hoped that someone other than the Djoker would win, I support all his opponents! I am pleased for Murray, after a lot of work and pressure from the Media, he got there. One of the main reasons was the points for Roger. I was pretty certain that it would be better if Ferrer or Murray won. If he can get to 300 weeks, that would be fantastic! He has some good events coming up for him, I would be worried if he lost at Basle!

Hello Roger,

It's been a great year for you. Congratulations on retaining your No 1 ranking, and reaching the quarters of the US Open.

Hope you have a nice respite, and then it's off to your next match.

to show just how great RF is, he won 3 slams in 2004, 2006, 2007. 2 slams 2005 & 2009. 1 in 2003, 2008, 2010, & 2012. djokovic is finding out what nadal said is true, can't stay at that level. roger stayed at that level for 4 1/2 yrs and has returned. he slayed his generation. neither nadal, djokovic , or murray has done that. they will be fighting each other from now on. their generation can't even hold on to #1. now add murray and 17 slams will be harder to catch for each of them.

Roger need to defend the points at Basel, Paris & at London since he is the defending champion, while Shanghai no point to defend, I don't think Roger will give priority to world no 1 next year, while priority should win Grand Slam & Major next year. Roger hv done enough to become world no1

ugly match between Murray and Djokovic, and that isn't because I am addicted to Federer game's, I've seen only first set, I couldn't watch more than that.

Per ATP web site, Novak is 1005 points ahead of Roger after US open for this year's performance. If Roger wins Shanghai(1000), Basel(500), Paris(1000) and all 5 matches in ATP final (1500) and Novak wins Beijing (500), all runner up finishes to Roger at Shanghai (600), Basel (300), Paris (600) and 4 matches in ATP final (1000), Roger is short of 5 points to tie the year end #1 ranking. Good tennis ahead.
