Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

It's good to see Andy Murray to finally hoist his 1st GS trophy. He deserves it! Novak gave him a scare after that 4th set. But an improved Andy kept his cool and finished it. Now Murray is here to stay. So I predict the shift in the current rivalry towards Djoko-Murray, though our GOAT and Nadal may make some noise in between. I see some good chances for Roger to end the year as No1. Novak seems to be physically hampered there and I'm not sure if he goes for the Asian swing. He may rest a bit.

Can anyone post: 'What are Federer chances to hold the End-of-year-No.1 title?'

I am happy for Andy and sorry for Djokvic. Andy got a whole lot of improvement. For some reason, Novak looked a bit of injured.

Anyway, it is over.

Even as a Scot, I had hoped on balance Djokovic would win. The final although exciting did not have the finesse of our dearest Roger. It was merely a boxing match and a case of who could hit stronger. I don't even think there was one passing shot.

Hi Roger,
You still in the number one spot. Thank God. Andy first major. He is a Scottish, not an Englishman. Enjoy your vacation with the family and your team. We will see you back when you are ready. This is the end of tunnel for Djokovic.
