Roger out in quarters

06.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

In eight years for the first time
Federe's name is not in the line
A semifinal without Federer here
It seems to me little hard to bear

Berdych truely deserves a huge applaud
For in the quarters he has defeated tennis' GOD
The defeat brought but an instantaneous grief to his admirers
As this one for him has been among the best of all years

All the ATP titles this year were simply great
Wimbledon trophy and Olympic silver were an icing on the cake
Regaining the top spot was surely a

I agree there are many 30-something players out there but the media do not clamour for them to retire! But they are always on Roger's case! Jealousy perhaps, who knows?! Nadal, with his bad knee, is the one who should be asked the retirement question, in my opinion! but, oh no, one loss for Roger and they are after him again! very unfair!

Federer is happy with his family and that is the only thing that counts for him
all the rest is just " bonus ".

Hey man, you have not only been so successful @ the game but you have set standards and class and has gone ahead to beat most standards set by you. There will definitely be haters and at your level of success, pls dont be surprised or let it get to you. U re-invent your game so much it pricks them. Their problem!!!
As always, millions of people still wish you well ALL THE TIME, WIN or lose!
Goodluck @ Shanghai. You will ever be No. 1 to me!

Bravo, you said it so well! PeRFect! I think the same and hope Roger will come back stronger, beat them all (they deserve it) especially those two who are going to play USO final, as well as that berdych, who plays only to defeat Roger!!
