Roger out in quarters

Roger could not make it past Tomas Berdych in the quarters of the US Open, losing 6-7(1), 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to the world number 7.

"So many moments, I thought, ‘Man, it’s just not happening for me,'" Roger said afterwards. "It was just a very disappointing match for me."

Berdych absolutely controlled the opening-set tiebreaker and then he broke to begin the second set. Roger fought back in the third set and finally found his rhythm. The critical point came late in the fourth set: Berdych's broke Roger to take a 5-3 lead. At that point, all Berdych had to do was hold serve - and he did.

For the first time since 2003, Roger is not going to participate in the U.S. Open semifinals. Still, he will remain world no. 1 until after the US Open.

Can someone give me the link to the pics of Roger and family in NY< please? I couldn't find any.
Agree with Jodoug, Dutch Lady and Coraz. the fact is Roger has had the best year of any player. The hype about Murray and Djokovic is always a bit misplaced. Yes, they may be terrific players - Djok. plays machine tennis and Murray plays CHEWING GUM TENNIS - he sticks around and can't be got rid of - but neither play the really great tennis of R Federer

"Dutchlady and Jodoug", I totally agree. Roger has had an incredible year. He rewrote history again, and back to #1 and will keep it no matter the outcome of the USO. As for the USO, for us fans, the excitement is over, except for the tornado warning and evacuation of Arthur Ashe Stadium yesterday during the SF. And I so love those family pictures in NY!!! Rog, good luck on the next tournaments.

You are so right, **Jodoug, and that is why I can live relatvely easily with this loss. Roger clearly wasn't at his best and things like that can happen. If you look at those wonderful pictures of the family walk in New York, all hand in hand, it seems like a miracle that Roger still manages to do so well. I don't expect him to win everything anymore and I am happy that he still playing so well. Happy to watch him playing DC in Amsterdam in a few days as well of course... :-) Kind of a bonus.

i didn't feel bad about this loss. of course as fans we want rog to win everyhing. but we shouldn't be sad about him losing, be fascinated that at age 31 with a wife and 2 kids he is #1, just won 7th wimby, 17th gs,silver medal, and record wks at #1. and 9 titles since last uso. we should be glad we got to see it all. sampras at this exact age had gone 26 months with no titles of any kind, ranked #17, won uso and never played again. i haven't watched uso since rog lost. don't care who wins.

Like you said Roger, "it was just not happening for you". Regardless of that Well Done on reaching the quarter finals. Enjoy the break :)

So sad not to see you in the semis; can't get up too much enthusiasm to watch now. No one plays with such style and class. Looking forward to your next outing!

I'm sorry that Murray is in the final. It will give him delusions of grandeur. I cannot stand his peely wally skin, bandy legs and bad dress sense.

Did not think Berdy would go any further. He played well enough against Roger but no better than normal and that is not not normally good enough to defeat the real Roger!
So I am pleased Berdy has gone, would now be very pleased if Ferrer defeats Djokovic for a Ferrer/Murray final. I will look up the result out of curiosity but have no interest to watch. It is Rogers intelligent, graceful and elegant game I love, no one elses!

The plain truth, Roger, is that tennis whithout you is a bore. What a pity the match against Berdych. I think this guy comes into his own whenever he plays you.
