Roger beats Haase to secure |Swiss Davis Cup win

16.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger beat Robin Haase 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 today to clinch Switzerland's victory against the Netherlands in their Davis Cup World Group playoff.

"I felt like I was always somewhat in control," Roger said after the match. Our champ was rarely troubled by the 50th-ranked Haase on the temporary clay court in Amsterdam. After only a few minutes, Roger already had jumped to a 3-0 lead. In the next two sets, he broke very early and sealed the victory and his team's return to the World Group next year after only 97 minutes.

Bravo, Roger! It hardly needs to be said, but the truth always bears repeating! Very pleased for you and Swiss team! ***HUGHSIE, thank you for the quote from R. Haase, who is a good player. Indeed, it is Roger's genius that he has such capabilities in handling the ball, the racquet, and having fantastic defense/offense. I can never say enough that he is the One-Off, like no one before, or ever after. Dear ROGER, you know what is best for you, and I know your decisions are carefully considered.

Yes, that comment by Robin Haase was the answer to a question every tennisplayer is interested in: what makes Roger so difficult to play? I remember watching Roger playing Robin Söderling at the WTF in London back in 2010 from a seat very close behind the baseline. I had very good view on what Söderling was up against and watched the same thing Robin Haase described. Very difficult to play against Roger, also because he plays so closely to the lines. And making it look so easy as well.....

Roger is exhausted ..... http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/wounded-federer-wants-break-tennis-091918062.html I'm not surprised. He's put his heart and sould into regaining the Number 1 spot and it's taking its toll. My very best wishes for whatever your decisions are. X

Hello again
I meant to post a comment fom Robin Haase post his match--he was commenting & I quote "how incredibly difficult to play with the speed and spin that Roger has on the ball--he Robin can hit a ball 10 centimetres from RF baseline he returns it deepinto RH court with no problem. If he hits it 10 centimetres from my baseline it is a totally different shot & I'm barely able to keep the ball in play. IT IS A JOY TO WATCH REALLY UNLESS IT IS YOU ON THE COURT"

cont
myself here!]
Honestly, I do not think that my feet have ever recovered from my own competitive playing days--coupled with nursing it is a wonder that they still work!
Anyway, happy holidays to Roger's feet.
