Roger beats Haase to secure |Swiss Davis Cup win

16.09.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger beat Robin Haase 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 today to clinch Switzerland's victory against the Netherlands in their Davis Cup World Group playoff.

"I felt like I was always somewhat in control," Roger said after the match. Our champ was rarely troubled by the 50th-ranked Haase on the temporary clay court in Amsterdam. After only a few minutes, Roger already had jumped to a 3-0 lead. In the next two sets, he broke very early and sealed the victory and his team's return to the World Group next year after only 97 minutes.

Thank you for your informative & detailed report of Amsterdam
Yes, we do feel privileged to be able to watch this genius Roger Federer [in your words] 'in full swing on the tennis court.' Also I feel priviliged that fans such as yourself take the time to post thoughts/observations to RF.com--much appreciated.
I loved your comment about Roger's feet--We comment on Roger's footwork movement etc around the court and give no thought to the feet[speaking for

Just read that you used the word 'wounded' and that you needed a holiday badly. Thinking back of my tennis competition playing days I wouldn't even want to think of what your feet must be like right now. Those poor feet must be in desperate need a few weeks without socks and tennisshoes and need some sun and fresh air to heal and be ready for the indoor season!
So happy holiday to your feet!

The weather held, the conditions of the court were excellent (complimens to the company that built it espcially for this occasion in such a short time) and the matches were good.
Having watched you live in Rotterdam, Halle and now Amsterdam three days in a row this year I feel extremely privileged. Wishing you some time to rest your body and mind and a good time with your family I hope to see you as soon as it suits you back on court in Shanghai or in Europe.

Like **Hughsie I value your very sensible comments about realistic expectations for the DC for smaller countries like the Netherlands and Switzerland. We saw Stan struggle a little on Friday, both of you paying the price for not playing doubles more often on Saturday and Marco losing his match on Sunday. The Swiss team depends on you and I am glad to know that you are so realistic about that.
Thanks to our victory in the doubles the Sunday matches mattered.

Hello Roger,

Congratulations on maintaning your position in the World Group. Robin Haase didn't sand a chance yesterday, because you played sublime tennis. I was sitting courtside in a very good position and had a first rate view. You were such a joy to watch and I felt sorry for Robin, who had hoped to do better against you. But I am sure non of the Dutch fans blamed him for that. There is no better sight in tennis than Roger Federer in full swing. We all felt very privileged.
