Roger wins Swiss encounter

Roger won his second match at the Shanghai Rolex Masters against his friend Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6, 7-6, 6-0. The victory means that Roger has now secured his 300th week as world no. 1!

Wawrinka had a better start into the match, capturing the first set. The second set proved a tough fight between the two friends, with Roger eventually winning the tie-breaker. In the third set, Wawrinka was unable to match Roger's game.

With today's victory, Roger set a new milestone in tennis history: he will be celebrating his 300th week as world no. 1 on Monday.

On Friday, Roger will meet Croatia's Marin Cilic (ATP 16) in the quarter final. Roger leads the head-to-head 3-0.

Congratulations on a great win today the 3rd set went so fast I could hardly believe your speed. you are so incredible. Good luck against cilic Fantastic you have reached 300 weeks as number 1 altho in my book you have been number one since I first became aware of the Fed express so many years ago.It has really made tennis so enjoyable only other great tennis is when my Grandson played Tennis as a small boy and then varsity tennis in high school.

Viva, Roger! Congratulations for the match, and for another record, the 300 weeks as #1. The commenators and media forget to mention that inside that record is ANOTHER RECORD, something no one has done: all those weeks, from the 1st time your rank was #1, and unbroken until it was within a week of Sampras's record. Not to take anything away from Pete, but what you did, with the FIRST, the consecutive ranking is unprecedented. Stan fought hard: he played well! More to go, and take care! Great!

rivals for roger are all retired or down in the rankings. roddick, safin, davydenko, hewitt, haas, nalbandian, etc are his rivals. i really laugh when they put the 25 and 26 year olds in the same boat as roger. these are guys just trying to get where he is. when roger was their age he would have never been bettered by a 31 yr old. they are in their prime and neither can keep the hands on the #1 spot. sure, they will get it back. should be ashamed they lost it in the 1st place. RF=GOAT!!!!

Hello Roger,

Heartiest congratulations on reaching the QF and securing your No. 1 ranking for a record 300 weeks. Interesting match with a strange finish: I will never understand why Stan went completely away in that 3rd set where he played so strongly in the first two. As your fan I won't complain, of course, and I am very happy it all went so well for you in the end, but as a spectator it left me wondering what happened.

I wish you all the very best against Marin Cilic.

Grande, grande, grande. Ero sicura che se vincevi il secondo set la partita era vinta, anche se non ho mai dubitato della tua vittoria. Complimenti a Stan per l'ottima partita. Bene le 300 settimane ma penso che anche tu ormai oltre ai record pensi alle vittorie. Una vittoria a Shangai sarebbe meravigliosa ma qualsiasi risultato va bene. Tu sei e sarai sempre il più grande per me. Sei fantastico. In bocca al lupo.

Congratulations! It was a tough match for you only because of its importance! Nevertheless Stan played well, but he stopped at the end!! Great for you to achieve this record.I almost had a heart attack watching your play! But everything is well that ends well!
