Roger advance

22.10.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger came through his first round match of the Basel Open tonight 7-5, 6-3 after a tough first set against Benjamin Becker from Germany.

Roger had a sluggish start against Benjamin Becker in his first round match of the Basel Open tonight before completing a sparkling second set to win 7-5, 6-3 in a time of 1hr.28mins. Becker’s serve is a potent weapon when on song and he kept Roger at arms length saving a string of set points – including a set point in the 12th game. Roger kept coming forward though and at the 8th time of asking he broke through. Becker refused to wilt  and shocked the crowd when breaking Roger in the 5th game of the second set but our champ gave an immediate response with a break of his own to love. Two games later he broke for the second time to fashion his victory.

Roger is bidding for his 6th win in 5 years – he last lost to Novak Djokovic in 2009. Roger will play either Thomas Bellucci (Brazil) or Go Soeda (Japan) in the next round.

2-My love, please don't worry about the defending points situation, take that pressure off your shoulders. You see all those beautiful accomplishments are yours forever you did it and no matter what will happen no one can take that away from you. It is your number 1 forever. So don't build up anxiety it is not a monumental task it is just playing tennis don't mind the numbers or whatever else.

3-Liberate yourself, if it happens great if it doesn't well then there is just more room to compete and keep having fun, it is great that you get to play in such high quality circumstances, so just go for it and let it be.

4-Play with freedom. Focus on the game that is what really matters. Enjoy the game and the experience fully, enjoy yourself out there. It is and it will be all right. Do your polite thing with the media and the press let them obsess they have to fill their page with something don't pay close attention to them, don't mind them, make it a patience exercise and an opportunity for us to listen to your beautiful voice and intellect. Whatever with them.

5-You go, play, enjoy tennis and be happy doing what you like, that is what really matters. Be at peace. I love you and I'll support you always remember that please. As you very well know there's more to tennis than just numbers as exciting and great some of those are, you can take much more transcendental things out of this great sport.

All the best for the next round! Take care, have a lot of fun! And be free. The way to success is the way of freedom.

I love you!...
