Roger in quarters

24.10.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The world No. 1 and home favourite is bidding to win his sixth Swiss Indoors crown, and enters this year's tournament as defending champion. Only once has Roger failed to take home the trophy since he first triumphed in 2006, and he survived a second-set blip to win 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-5 against Bellucci.

Roger went into a 3-0 lead within 10 minutes. As is typical of a champs performance, a solitary break was all he needed to close out the set, although he did have to save two break points against him as he attempted to serve it out. Bellucci fought back early in the second, taking Roger to a tie break after games had gone with serve. Bellucci stormed into a 6-2 lead to create four set points. Our Champ saved all four but eventually relented as the Brazilian levelled the match. Forced to a third set, Roger came out fighting, creating a break point in Bellucci's first service game. He failed to convert on that occasion  but eventually made the decisive breakthrough helped by a Bellucci double fault. By this time Roger was back in control and closed out the match delighting his fans who had been sitting on the edge of their seats for the last two sets.

Roger will meet the winner of Lukasz Kubot and Benoit Paire in the last eight.

Roger, i just watched the highlights and the third set was a thing of beauty, i think you are starting to hit your stride, hopefully i am right and you can repeat the victories from last year. Next year the calendar will be longer and you will be able to play more circuit points like montecarlo, Canada and Tokyo and in this way you will keep on top altough we all want the same. This year showed you playing great and with chances in all slams, next year i think the aim will be the year slam GOAT

Good, Roger!
I love to know you won, though sorry that I couldn't watch you play live where I live.
Take care and enjoy your time in your hometown tournament.
Good luck in the next round.
Always,
Keiko

Great stuff again. A very high quality and enjoyable match. Bellucci did not play badly at all, and its good to see him playing well. The most important thing of course that Roger pulled through :).

"World #1 is bidding to win" Love it.

Roger, if you feel playing 3 sets plus tiebreaks are fun, and still have tons of energy left for Paris, then go for it. (For me I want easy straight forward matches)

Good luck for QF, Champ!!
