Roger makes winning start

06.11.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger opened his quest for a seventh season-ending tour title, looking like the man to beat again. The Champ lost only eight points on his serve under the roof of the O2 Arena while converting four of his nine break points in the event that features the top eight players in the world and going on to win 6-3,6-1."I still had some little things I had to work through the last couple of days. Really since yesterday, I feel fine," Roger said."It's my third trip to London this year. The other two were pretty good and I hope something similar is going to happen this week. It’s a great atmosphere, I’m happy I played so well because Janko’s a great player also. I had a great year and great summer, I gave everything I had and it worked. It was a great season but its not over yet - I hope I can keep it up here. There are many things I cannot achieve any more as I cant go back in time, I’m happy with how my career has gone. You only have one chance and I think I am making the most out of it but hopefully I have more left in the tank".

Roger had won all five of his previous meetings with Tipsarevic and, with the Serb having no impact on his opponent's serve, the first set was over in 30 minutes.Tipsarevic staved off two break points in the third game of the second set, but Roger kept dictating play from the baseline and he finally induced a miscued forehand from the Serb to break for a 2-1 lead.Scenting blood, our Champ delivered the killer blow with a blazing forehand for another break that ended any hopes of a Tipsarevic revival. The 31-year-old already has a record six titles in this season-ending event after winning the tournament for the last two years and he looks in the mood to complete a hat-trick on the evidence of this emphatic Group B victory over the Serbian eighth seed in just one hour and eight minutes.

Dear Roger, Family, and Coach team,
I'm just a small fan of all Vietnamese Tennis fans. Tennis is loved just after football. All the match of you can be watched almost places in Vietnam because of this simple thing: You are an artist of tennis. This style will be second to none forever. I love your style! Thanks for seeing you at all the Final Matchs, and of course the coming ATP WTF Cup will be on your hands.
We love your 2 angels also, they are so lovely.
Best wishes / Huynh Hung

Well Roger, the fact that you could win today just with 50% of first serves was nothing short of maginificent and proves us that is showtime. Keep on focusing on your serve and beast Delpotro to Reach SF as first seed. Please stay focus and make lucky number seven tournament number 77 to tie with Johny mac.

Sheesh Rog, I felt quite ill during that match. All credit to you for winning with your serve going AWOL but feel a little sorry for Daveed (but not too much!). Thank goodness you came good in the tiebreak. Well done, enjoy London and look forward to seeing you on Friday. Lots and lots of love. xxxxxx
