Roger loses London final

12.11.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

A scintillating and truly exciting game lasting 2hr.14 minutes with some of the most impressive tennis seen this year. Unfortunately the result went against our Champ Roger 6-7(6), 5-7 but he played his part in producing a final to go down in history with a worthy opponent in Djokovic.

'I cannot play much better than I did today so I am very pleased."  This was Roger speaking after he had lost out 6-7 (6-8) ,5-7 to Novak Djokovic last night in the O2 arena,London. It was a fascinating game and a fitting end to a high quality championship.
Roger continued "Congratulations to Novak on an amazing year and tournament, you're the best”. Roger indeed started well, winning the opening nine points and 12 of the first 14 to take a 3-0 lead. He then won the first point of the fourth game, but Djokovic finally held his serve — and soon broke back.In the ninth game, Djokovic broke again to serve for the set at 5-4, but our Champ evened the score and forced the tiebreaker.

"I shouldn't have been broken as often as I was broken today," said Roger, who lost his serve twice in each set. "But then again, that obviously has something to do with Novak, as well. Obviously I was going to try to go after my shots and not just hand it to him. That's just how I play tennis," said Roger. "If I have 80 errors and I win the match, I don't care. I really don't. Maybe a bit of regret because I had the lead twice first before him," said the two-time defending champion. "At the end of the day, that doesn't matter. You have to get over the finish line in the set and then obviously at the match. He was better at that today."

To start the second set, Roger broke Djokovic and then held all the way to 5-3. A game later and serving for the set, he had two set points but  put a forehand wide and  then another into the net.The breaker included a candidate for the best point of the year as Djokovic, on set point, lunged to clip a diving Roger volley past his opponent, only for the Swiss to contort his body and fire a forehand winner past the Serb from an impossibly acute angle. Two more mistakes from our Champ put Djokovic back on serve and back on track for the title. The Serb closed it out with the backhand passing winner. An amazing game had finished.

My greatest wishes for you are to achieve a Calender grand slam at least once. Do it in the year 2013. Secondly to achieve the highest number of grand slams atleast 25 or more. Because the great Margaret court has 24. Kindly do it. You can and will do it. May God bless you no end.
May you enjoy your vacation with family and friends and comeback next year strong and more.
Yours lovingly,
Rajashekar

1) My dearest Fed,
You could have won this match easily, but it is unbelievable that you lost it. Were you tired at times or something else bothered you. You were not in your element, I feel so. Had you been a little bit patient and thoughtful you could have won. Hard luck.
contd.

I think as you know that you are an incomparable tennis player and than yesterday you played some of the best points of the year . Despite this if the service worked better you could have won confortably. You are the greatest tennis player of all times! Remember this. Thank you, Mauro!

I simply cannot beleive it !!! Instead of winning this match with a 2:0, you lost 2:0. And again against Djokovic. Again set points, breaks, serving for sets. The only good thing is that you didnt have a match piont. This is a very, very bad loss. I am really dissapointed. I will support you no matter what happens, but I must say that I am really dissapionted. May GOD be with you !!!

A truly fabulous match with brilliant tennis. Unfortunately luck was not with Roger on the really big points. If that ball had gone in at 40-15 on set point at 5-4 in set 2, the outcome might have been completely different!! Looking forward to a great 2013 season with lots of success for our champion Roger. Have fun in Latin America!

No worries, Roger, you had a great season and I am sure, u will have a great 2013 as well,,

For me, the highlight of the match was that amazing 12th point in the 1st set tie-breaker and i also saw a GIF of that just now ---

Really very lucky to see you playing the most elegant, graceful, and talented tennis on the court. No one else could be a genius like you.
I think you should discuss with your team to find a way to defeat Novak, as he is always so arrogant, much more than anyone else. I believe you and your team could make it. I can't wait to see you defeat Novak in the new season and ATF of 2013!!
Wish you and your family all the best!!

I watched the whole match through TV and was heart-broken when I saw our Champ lifted up the runner-up's plate, with his despairing eye-sight; by then, I understood that Rog was much more hurted than any of his fans at that moment. Rog needs to face the reality so do we as his die-hard fans; Rog will certainly look for a better tomorrow and so do we. Wishing our Champ, his family and team stay healthy and happy. Merry X'mas and Happy 2003.
