Roger loses London final

12.11.2012 | Tennis, Starseite 2

A scintillating and truly exciting game lasting 2hr.14 minutes with some of the most impressive tennis seen this year. Unfortunately the result went against our Champ Roger 6-7(6), 5-7 but he played his part in producing a final to go down in history with a worthy opponent in Djokovic.

'I cannot play much better than I did today so I am very pleased."  This was Roger speaking after he had lost out 6-7 (6-8) ,5-7 to Novak Djokovic last night in the O2 arena,London. It was a fascinating game and a fitting end to a high quality championship.
Roger continued "Congratulations to Novak on an amazing year and tournament, you're the best”. Roger indeed started well, winning the opening nine points and 12 of the first 14 to take a 3-0 lead. He then won the first point of the fourth game, but Djokovic finally held his serve — and soon broke back.In the ninth game, Djokovic broke again to serve for the set at 5-4, but our Champ evened the score and forced the tiebreaker.

"I shouldn't have been broken as often as I was broken today," said Roger, who lost his serve twice in each set. "But then again, that obviously has something to do with Novak, as well. Obviously I was going to try to go after my shots and not just hand it to him. That's just how I play tennis," said Roger. "If I have 80 errors and I win the match, I don't care. I really don't. Maybe a bit of regret because I had the lead twice first before him," said the two-time defending champion. "At the end of the day, that doesn't matter. You have to get over the finish line in the set and then obviously at the match. He was better at that today."

To start the second set, Roger broke Djokovic and then held all the way to 5-3. A game later and serving for the set, he had two set points but  put a forehand wide and  then another into the net.The breaker included a candidate for the best point of the year as Djokovic, on set point, lunged to clip a diving Roger volley past his opponent, only for the Swiss to contort his body and fire a forehand winner past the Serb from an impossibly acute angle. Two more mistakes from our Champ put Djokovic back on serve and back on track for the title. The Serb closed it out with the backhand passing winner. An amazing game had finished.

Is different, but the speed is very low. As I said before, if the courts are like they have been in the nineties, Roger would have at least 22 grand slams by now.

Yes I remember. Players like Djoko and Nadal, especially Nadal are crying every time when in their opinion the court is fast and actually it is very slow. I think that Roger's team is responsible for that, they failed because they didn't cry, they didn'say anything. But they are honest people, not like them. Now it is too late. They should have done that before 7 years, exactly in 2005. Maybe they could do sometthing then, now for ATP everything is about the money. The colour of the surface i

@MILESA not all young two-hand back hand players are boring, keep an eye on Jerzy Janowicz. He is quite entertaining.

Congrats on a great season, although it was not your best. The biggest thing for your fans is that at 31 you are still playing very well, managed to win Wimbledon and regain the #1 ranking for some 20 weeks, making a record of 300+ weeks. You are simply the greatest among all the tennis players I have seen play. Have a nice off-season with your family and friends. All the very best.

**TUNA4444* you may be right, unfortunately! and this tennis is so boring! Do you remember the blue clay in Madrid, and the protests (Rafa, Novak), the ATP will change it!!And Roger didn't mind that clay! Serena too!
For us as Roger's fans it's the most important that Roger is healthy and in the good shape! His beautiful tennis will last for a couple of years! It's a pity that almost all young players play so boring tennis!
Wish you all the best, good rest and good luck dearest Roger!
Love, Mi

Because it is an organisation which love money the most. And because of the money majority of the sports is ruined. Football is number one on the list. I am from Zagreb. Look Dinamo Zagreb in the champions league. They cannot score a goal, and winning a game is a science fiction for them. People around the world are laughing to my club. They are weak because they don'have enough money to compete with the best clubs which have millions of euros.

Problem is that he has a single hand beckhand. This beckhand is not good for long ralies if your name is not Guga Kuerten. But before 20 years, Roger and his team didn't know that this would happen. On this kind of courts, I assure you, Sampras wouldn't have more than 2,3 grand slams and maybe 2 Wimbledon titles. What we can do ? What Roger can do ? I am afraid nothing. He is 31. He can't change his style or to go to the gym and become Arnold Schwarzeneeger. And ATP will not change this

It s nice reading comments of TUNA4444 & ADI1008.Anyway if nothing b changed, i believe Roger and his team can find good solutions to deal with it. He is second to none on slow court as well.

No worries, Roger, you had a great season and I am sure, u will have a great 2013 as well,,

For me, the highlight of the match was that amazing 12th point in the 1st set tie-breaker and felt good to see u smiling after the match in the video that I saw---

And Andy. As I said, they can't do it because the courts are slow, and will be slower and slower. ATP cosa nostra want to see long matches, they want to see Arnold, Sly and Dolph Lundgren on the court. That has nothing to do with talent, it is a physical game. They ruined tennis, my love of life. I can't watch this anymore.
