In round 2 with ease

15.01.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger opened his 2013 Australian Open quest with a straight-sets win against Benoît Paire today.

"I'm happy, he's a good player, good talent and I have not played a match this season yet so I wasn't sure and that's why you're relieved when you're through the first one," Roger said.

It was Roger's first match on the Tour since the ATP World Tour finals in London in November, and he showed no real signs of rustiness, breaking the Frenchman six times and serving solidly himself to secure a 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 win.

Competing in his 53rd straight Grand Slam, Roger is bidding to become only the second player after Australia's Roy Emerson (six titles from 1961-1967) to win five Australian Open titles. Our champ could regain the number one spot should he win this year's Australian Open while Novak Djokovic would drop out before the semi-finals.

Still think that Roger has the short end of the stick, as usual. When he was ranked #1, he would meet #3 in the semis. Now that he is #2, he still meets #3 in the semis. I think that Djokovic should be scheduled to meet Murray in the semis. Roger deserves a break.

Congratulations!!!! It was a great match and great start, of course. Second round won´t be easy but you are able enough to beat Davydenko cause you know him very well. I´ve just seem some pictures and heard the after match interview with Jim Courier and I really enjoyed them. No idea why people are talking about your shorts, your outfit is beautiful and whatever you wear will be perfect..... because you´re just peRFect!!! Good Luck for your next match!!! Regards from Peru.

I'm so happy to see you playing, the waiting felt like an eternity. You look super strong and fit. Your game was clear, precise and great. That beautiful display was needed, you are so talented.

Loving all that self assurance. Keep it up!

2-Really like the color and design of your shirt and your shoes are really pretty I liked the other lighter blue ones with the fluorescent stripe a bit more, but these are great too. You look amazing! Super handsome! And oh your legs Roger, incredible! 8)❤

Hello Roger
A great start for the AO and 2013 and for me sitting courtside.
I always feel that it is such an honour to be able to watch you play your wonderful tennis. One cannot adequately describe your sheer magic [and natural talent] placement of serves, speed, angles, net play just everything--there is NO-ONE to equal you and, daresay I say, may never be.
How very sad to learn of Brad Drewett's illness, my thoughts and very best wishes go to him, his family & friends
Kind regards
