Roger advances

17.01.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger eased into round three of the Australian Open with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

Roger was in charge right from the start and broke his opponent in the sixth game to take the opening set in 42 minutes. He continued just that way and never faced a break himself throughout the entire match.

Our champ will now face the Aussie crowd favourite Bernard Tomic, whom he beat in straight sets in the second round of last year's Australian Open. "It's nice to see Bernard playing better again. He had a rough end to the season last year, but he's had a wonderful start this year and I hope he can keep it up and crack the big rankings. It's going to be an exciting match. I have got to play tough. I don't mind the physical aspects and maybe that is an advantage for me. I will always play aggressively but we will try to move each other around a bit so it will need a bit more finesse,"  said Roger.

Solid win against an always tough opponent Roger. It sure does seem that your half of the draw has all the real talent in it, eh? Good luck against Tomic in the next round. Can't wait to see that match!!

I watched the highlight and loved those sharp angle shots. You would need those shots against higher ranked players. That is the key to shorten the rally.

I believe working with Paul Anacone has yielded results. Paul is a dedicated, considerate and experienced coach. He is also a responsible dad. Roger and Paul is the best combo and I think Pete would agree that.

Congratulations Roger. Now put that smug Tomic in his place. Straight sets would be nice Champ! Best of luck!
