Roger advances

Roger eased into round three of the Australian Open with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Russian Nikolay Davydenko. 

 

Roger was in charge right from the start and broke his opponent in the sixth game to take the opening set in 42 minutes. He continued just that way and never faced a break himself throughout the entire match. 

 

Our champ will now face the Aussie crowd favourite Bernard Tomic, whom he beat in straight sets in the second round of last year's Australian Open. "It's nice to see Bernard playing better again. He had a rough end to the season last year, but he's had a wonderful start this year and I hope he can keep it up and crack the big rankings. It's going to be an exciting match. I have got to play tough. I don't mind the physical aspects and maybe that is an advantage for me. I will always play aggressively but we will try to move each other around a bit so it will need a bit more finesse,"  said Roger.

Congratulations for advancing to the 3rd! Just watching your match on video. Very entertaining match against Davy. Loved your outfit with a little pink. But it must have been very hot out there near 40 degrees C.

Federinho my dearest, I woke up a little before 6 and you made my day! You played wonderfully, as always. Keep it up and put Tomic on the place he belongs, give him another tennis class, he needs it. In the future, after your retirement I might cheer for him if he becomes the player most people think he will, but now ... no way! You're the GOAT, you're my dearest! Don't know if I'll be able to watch yr next match, but feel my presence cheering, even if I'm not there, I'll be in spirit anyway! Lo
