Out against Murray

25.01.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Yet another scintillating, exciting and very brave game from the racquet of our Roger – unfortunately this time the result could not match his tennis. He has lost to Andy Murray 4-6, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(2), 2-6 in an absorbing and enthralling game of tennis.

This time it did not look as though Murray would be the loser right from the start of the first set which he took comfortably 6-4. Having said that our champ made him fight hard for his victory by taking the 2nd and 4th sets with tiebreaks. After a really hard fought battle with Murray dominating most of the match it was only our Roger’s brilliance that kept him alive – that and an indomitable spirit that refuses to give in when most other players would be swamped. By the 5th set though it seemed our champ had given his all and Murray took only 35 minutes from a 4 hour match to close out the final set 6-2.  From the cheering during the match it seemed at times as though he was playing the match in Basel and not in Melbourne plus Roger was given a standing ovation when he left the court. Murray now faces Djokovic in the final on Sunday.

Thanks Roger for fighting against the two, Murray and fitness !! no doubt , moving into the 32 years of age is not like being in the 25th ... But any way , its great tennis you are performing ... waiting for you in Roland Garros , Wimbeldon and the US open .. walk with pride our king !!

The king is dead, long live the king. Roger had a long reign but age and health come to all (he is not Superman). If he is content to make quarters and semis that is fine. He doesn't put inthe time and tournaments to beat the top players. I predict a slide fro 2 to 5 shortly. I actually have warmed to to Novak (can't stand Nadal and Murray). It would be a nice touch if he played Davis Cup for the Swiss.
He cannot play long matches. Don't blame the other players because they had shorter easier

The sheer effort and perseverence that you showed makes me reverie you more than ever. All I can say is thank you for everything. I've learned so many life lessons from you. For me, you are not only a tennis player, but a role model. Love you always!

Hello Roger,

Congratulations on your semi final against Andy. It was thrilling down to the last ball toss. The most unfortunate side effect was Andy's restricted movement against Novak in the finals. I'm not a fan of Novak's. Andy is growing on me, because of his sincerity.

Good luck in your next match.

just as i thought the comentators on eurosport said after the tsonga match roger got treatment on his back for an hour and a half before press.it was obvious from previous matches once this happens his first serves gone which is what happened against murray apperently this happened at the olympics against del potro as well he knew he couldnt win the final. what a great player he never made excuses just got on with it just shows how great this guy is the finalists never played anyone first 5 m
