Out against Murray

25.01.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Yet another scintillating, exciting and very brave game from the racquet of our Roger – unfortunately this time the result could not match his tennis. He has lost to Andy Murray 4-6, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(2), 2-6 in an absorbing and enthralling game of tennis.

This time it did not look as though Murray would be the loser right from the start of the first set which he took comfortably 6-4. Having said that our champ made him fight hard for his victory by taking the 2nd and 4th sets with tiebreaks. After a really hard fought battle with Murray dominating most of the match it was only our Roger’s brilliance that kept him alive – that and an indomitable spirit that refuses to give in when most other players would be swamped. By the 5th set though it seemed our champ had given his all and Murray took only 35 minutes from a 4 hour match to close out the final set 6-2.  From the cheering during the match it seemed at times as though he was playing the match in Basel and not in Melbourne plus Roger was given a standing ovation when he left the court. Murray now faces Djokovic in the final on Sunday.

CJM, could not agree more with your comment.
As for people saying Roger is "selfish" for not playing, please.
This is the first time Rog has not played since 2010.
He played the maximum number of matches in 2011 and 2012, the second being most impressive because it was a year when he got back to #1 after he won Wimbledon and won 3 masters titles, a silver medal, Rotterdam and Dubai. :)

What a doubles match that was with Stan and Marco. They both played their hearts out. The match did not deserve that ending though, that was so cruel! Please thank both of them for me Roger. Stan made a very valiant effort against Berdy as well, especially after playing for 7 hours the previous day. Stan must have been tired and hurt after a marathon like that. Well done Stan! Meanwhile, looking forward to watching a fit and rested Roger in action again. Not long now.

MAC played Davis cup well after his prime and did surprisinging well.
With Spain out, the Swiss would have had a good chance this year.

Roger let down Switzerland and Stan. Even if Roger had played doubles only, they would have won and Stan would be fresh for his next singles match. So much for Roger saying he would play Davis Cup later in the season. You can't play later if you lose the first rubber!! He is selfish!!

If tennis court has a heart, it will be jealous of Roger Federer.

Hi Roger. It's very pitty to see Switzeland losing like this....It's not your fault ; your good friends (Stan & Marco - a childood friend) gave everything but the had bad luck. I was in tears after the double. Please help Suisse team to come back in the World group and win the Davis cup for all the fans that love you and the swiss team
