Out against Murray

25.01.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Yet another scintillating, exciting and very brave game from the racquet of our Roger – unfortunately this time the result could not match his tennis. He has lost to Andy Murray 4-6, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(2), 2-6 in an absorbing and enthralling game of tennis.

This time it did not look as though Murray would be the loser right from the start of the first set which he took comfortably 6-4. Having said that our champ made him fight hard for his victory by taking the 2nd and 4th sets with tiebreaks. After a really hard fought battle with Murray dominating most of the match it was only our Roger’s brilliance that kept him alive – that and an indomitable spirit that refuses to give in when most other players would be swamped. By the 5th set though it seemed our champ had given his all and Murray took only 35 minutes from a 4 hour match to close out the final set 6-2.  From the cheering during the match it seemed at times as though he was playing the match in Basel and not in Melbourne plus Roger was given a standing ovation when he left the court. Murray now faces Djokovic in the final on Sunday.

Roger: Now there are three thousand points to defend and no real crack in the calendar until Rome, unless you change your calendar which you will most likely do since you know your tennis is always better the most you play. Now train a lot, work on every aspect of you backhand and your serve and trust yourself and your tennis. Rivals study you to see your weak spots since they play defensive tennis, show them for once and for all that your attacks are impossible to defend. Always cheering.

Mr.Federer is always a champion in our heart, you do not need to win to prove anything, because you are already a tennis genies, a greatest legend, it is a pleasure to watch you play on the tennis court lose or not. Thanks Mr.Federer.

So agree with JoDoug. Oz was good. 3 fantastic matches against difficult opponents. Okay, they were all 3 setters, but that in itself must have been physically and even more mentally draining. To get on top of them like that. You were tired against Murray, who had had no opposition whatsoever. I don't care for the new Murray. I fear he's turning into Lendl Mark II. How horrible that will be. Except he isn't as 'good' (Always hated Lendl) But I've such respect for YOU great FED.

However, I thought you played tremendous tennis in the first outing of the season. I was up every morning at 3:30 sharp. I think I was so concerned about Raonic that I didn't get any sleep that night. You were amazing against him - especially that drop shot on his first serve - I still cannot believe that one. Can't wait for Rotterdam. Looks like Tomic, Delpo, Tsonga will be there as well.

After listening to the analysts like BG, McEnroe, Navratilova, Fowler, etc., on your opponent's 1st serves - especially big servers like Tsonga, Raonic, Murray, Delpo and Djokovic, why don't you move back instead of standing on baseline as if you were waiting for a 2nd serve? They all conclude you would be able to return more of these guys first serves by moving back. They all concluded you were too stubborn? If this change helps, why not?
