Out against Benneteau

15.02.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was shocked by Julien Benneteau in the quarter finals of Rotterdam today, losing to the Frenchman 3-6, 5-7.

Roger did not seem his usual self, battling with ill-timed double faults and a bad rhythm in general. Benneteau secured three service breaks, while dropping just one to clearly lead the match. It was only at 2-4 in the second set that Roger finally scored a break after being able to hold serve. Unfortunately he struggled with his serve again at 5-6 and finally had to admit defeat after too many errors including another double fault.

Next up for Roger are the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, starting on February 25th.

It's only one match ! only a small speck on the broad spectrum of Roger's brilliant career.I am always disappointed when Roger loses anything but what saddens me the most is the negative and insulting tone in some posters' comments. Only Roger knows why he was off that night. Why waste time and energy speculating ? I am sure Roger is OK with the loss, . He learned long ago to let go and move on and he's done it beautifully ! we should too.

Kemna, I believe that managing an ATP Tournament also is a business, so now that he has contracted Roger two years in a row, Richard probably has to be carefull not to give all his change away before the negotations with Tony Godsick, if there are going to be any over the next months. Rogers manager is said to be a tough negotiator. On the other hand I can understand that a tournament would want another No. 1 on the board and both Novak and Rafa are still missing....

I was very interested to read Dutchlady's report. Roger has not served very well since the Murray match. It does seem that something is not right and it is probably his back. I do hope he is looking after it while he is in South Africa.

I was looking forward to a lovely weekend watching Roger play and win but am hoping he will be fully fit for Dubai. Meanwhile I am collecting some of his old wins in Grand Slams on DVD and have just got 'Les Silences de Federer'.

Dutchlady, but I have to be honest about this too, Richard is doing a marvellous job.
I was not always his fan, but I very much respected that he won Wimbledon for us.
And yes, maybe he could make Rotterdam a 1000-tour. I hope so, but that is not easy. When they asked Roger if he would like Brasil, etc to be a 1000 tour, he said yes, but that also meant that another tour would be 500 instead of 1000.
Do you wish that upon another tour? Should we not be happy we have a good and popular 500tour?

Hoi Dutchlady, thank you for replying. I know Richard made a joke, you could see he was nervous. But if you read the statements he made in the newspaper, it comes through as: Well Roger is my friend, I would like to do a lot to keep him coming, and when he loses, well if he wants to be back next year, I will think about it !!! That is what I don't like about him. It is true what they say, when you are winning, everybody wants you and is your friend, but when you lose.....
