Out against Benneteau

15.02.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was shocked by Julien Benneteau in the quarter finals of Rotterdam today, losing to the Frenchman 3-6, 5-7.

Roger did not seem his usual self, battling with ill-timed double faults and a bad rhythm in general. Benneteau secured three service breaks, while dropping just one to clearly lead the match. It was only at 2-4 in the second set that Roger finally scored a break after being able to hold serve. Unfortunately he struggled with his serve again at 5-6 and finally had to admit defeat after too many errors including another double fault.

Next up for Roger are the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, starting on February 25th.

Also, before you would go for and try to get back every ball you possibly can- you would try to get back a ball which is metres and metres away from you, even if there's only a 2% chance of you getting it back! Now, I'm sorry to say, you rarely even go for a ball which has a 40% chance for you to get it back, much less 2%.

Also, before you used to be really aggressive and at the same time would be very consistent and would only make a few unforced errors in a match, and even if you did make many, they would only happen on a few rare occasions. Now you are making a lot more unforced errors very frequently, nearly in every match- total opposite of what you used to do.

Before, you would attack every ball you possibly can, but now are much more defensive, especially on your backhand-side, which to me is looking just a tiny bit unstable. At times, even your forehand is unstable- you are also mishitting and miss-timing a few easy balls. I'm sorry to say, but your groundstrokes are gradually becoming a bit predictable by other players.

I hope you've read this and it has helped :)

Welcome back to the sunshine and desert breezes dear Roger. I believe the early return to Dubai after SA will reward your TRUE fans. This last one was for Julien and he does deserve to finally win an ATP title. Leave the bigger titles for yourself.

Set sail for that silver ship, see you soon in Indian Wells.

I believe . It is good to reserve energy and play within yourself and be free of drugs including licit pain killers. It is a long year and it is a long career. I do not understand why your own fans do not support and understand that. Love you Roger and love your decision. Watch your play again in Dubai. Please stay healthy. That is the most important thing to me. Love from Japan.
