Roger eases through

10.03.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Our Champ cruised through to the third round of the Indian Wells Championship last night in 58 minutes winning 96% of his first serves during the match. Denis Istomin was never in the match and Roger’s shot-making  was surgical in his demolition of his opponent. "It's nice to be back as defending champion and to start so strong today," Roger said after sealing his win in just under an hour on his second match point. “I came out and played exceptionally well so I am happy. It felt good from the start and I was able to maintain that level of play. I never thought he got into the match, you know, at all. That gives you obviously even more confidence. And then with best-of-three sets, we know things are over quickly." Roger will next play Croatian Ivan Dodig.

Roger, as always i am following your every move. Was sad to hear you were in SA, and couldnt exactly find out where you were. Please come and play here as we in SA do not have the opportunity to see you in action ever!!!! Pls think of your SA fans so far away.

Exactly, never bent his knees again after that or moved forward.... PLayed though very relax deep shots as he had to be caution and quite not to hurt himself... Can't believe the commentators didn't see it (at least on DSTV... Rob Koenig...)

Shat! Anyone else notice just now in RF's last service game where he hurt his back up 30-15? Commentators and even Dodig seemed to miss it entirely, but it was visible. Subtle, but if you focus on Roger, you'll see him come up wincing after a serve (2nd?) and stiff as a board. Game went to deuce with Roger just laying serves in at 70 mph. From the ground, he never again bent his knees and just wailed winners, at least enough to win the match. Glad Dodig donated that last game, as RF was hurt.

Congrats Champ! Thank god you could finish quick considering you haurt your back at 30/15 4-1 second set!!! I can't believe the commentators didn't see you had a prob! They were like "Federer doesn't even have to move..." Can't remember what point but it was 4-1 I think!!!!! Thank god you got the break and finished at 6-1 without Dodig noticing you were in pain!!! Good and quick recovery! Take your time and bravo!!!!!
