Roger in tough half

11.01.2008 | Tennis

Roger will face Argentina’s Diego Hartfield (ATP 106), opening his campaing for his fourth Australian Open Title. His opponent in the second round would be either Fabrice Santoro (ATP 37) or John Isner (ATP 108). He faces a potential re-run of last year's final against Fernando Gonzalez in this year's quarter-finals.

Roger is in a tricky half of the draw that also includes No.3 seed Novak Djokovic, whom he is drawn to meet in the semi-finals, as well as Lleyton Hewitt, former winner Marat Safin and David Nalbandian, who defeated our star twice late last year.

Roger has played Hartfield once so far, two years ago in the opening round in Roland Garros. Roger struggled at first, but managed to win the match 7-5, 7-6 and 6-2. Hartfield has participated in two tournaments this year, dropping out in the first round in Doha and the first round of the qualification in Sydney.
