Through in three sets

14.03.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Your correspondent gave up watching this ‘battle of the Swiss’ on a live feed from Indian Wells when Roger was 6-3 and 3-1 thinking (at 01.30 cet) that our champ was in control and all was well with the natural order of Swiss tennis. How wrong (as tennis proves again and again) can one be. Roger took Wawrinka to 5-4 in the second set and seemed to be comfortable but then he was broken to love and Wawrinka took the set 7-6(7) in fine style. Roger went on to take the 3rd set 7-5 when Warinka netted a forehand.

“Today it was extremely close again," our champ told reporters after coming good in a seesaw contest lasting two hours 20 minutes. "He usually plays me pretty good actually overall. Okay, I should maybe close it out in the second set, but he did well to stay in it. In the end, I don't know what gets me through. Maybe it's the experience or maybe I'm a bit more calm in those moments. I'm not sure. Today I think I was a little lucky to come through it in the end," added Roger.

Our champ has now set up a much anticipated quarter final clash with the Spanish whirlwind Nadal -  it will be their first meeting in 12 months when Roger beat Nadal in the semi-finals of the same tournament.

Roger: I see now some of your fans are writing you off, that is sad for me but it should be devastating for you. It is sad to see you loose, probably your back didnt help, please shut us all up, recover and come back with a vengeance in Monaco, this year the clay season should be great for you. Just play as you know how to, be the masetro you are and everything should fall into place again. Now you have more matches to win since you will have the shotgun shine of vengeance in your eyes.

There was no fight in. Roger tonight ! I don't understand ! But what I k ow is he is still the most unique and beautiful tennis player, that nobody can ever come close to!!!

aah !!!!! So so gutted !! !! Cannot take the beautiful maestro losing !
But there is a pattern here since Jan, all tournaments. Roger has played in, he wins the first two matches then loses the third and here again, first two matches through then out on the third !!!!! I don't get it !!!
Look how he pulled it round with wavrinka , Dodig, etc, then he plays so lack lustre against. Nadal ?????
Is it back trouble? Is it the powers that be, saying go out in the third match ? I just don't know

But, as always, you have all my support Roger.

someone also thought that roger seemed tired? This match reminded this time of 2010, when roger also seemed apathic. It seemed that he was holding himself, maybe an injure.

I dont know, i just know that this was the first match since Aussie that i saw roger playing, so for me it was worthy watching.

Hey Champ, like I said earlier you should have withdrawn before starting the match. Players do that all the time. Its just unnecessary to take crap that way. Anyway I know you'll just forget this crap and take a nice vacation, practice hard and be back as always, rocking!!!
