Out against Nadal

15.03.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The clash of the titans at Indian Wells turned out to be a non event – unfortunately with our Roger on the losing side against Rafa Nadal 4-6, 2-6. Our Champ – always the gentleman – refused to blame the problem with his back saying: "I'm happy to be out there and able to compete, but it's obviously a small issue," he said. "That doesn't work against guys like Rafa". He added, "you could see at least I could serve full basically, and that always gives you a direction". He also said that he didn't want to talk about his back too much "because I don't like to undermine his performance, either". Rafa was just as magnanimous in victory saying "if I think that I am better than him because I beat him 19 against 10, I will be very stupid and very arrogant," he said. "This is not the case."

Roger had a miserable match against his old foe with only a slight glimmer of hope in the second set to get to 2-3 from 0-3 but Nadal took the remaining games in the set to win the match. It has to be said to Roger’s immense credit that he continued to play when obviously hampered by injury. There are a lot of players who would have retired rather than battling on never mind fashioning a break so early in the second set.

Next up will be the Mutua Madrid Open in May.

I fully agree with you. Roger will always be my number 1 tennis player and in my view his absence in Miami was evident. I'm sure the ATP organisers would prefer him to be playing. I look forward to his return in May. Happy birthday to his wife Mirka.

I Saw the promotions of WTF on the ATPTOUR webpage and the face they use to promote the year end event is yours. Even when you are 31 YO you are still the person that the fans want to watch since you are the poet of the racket and the master of the courts. Please rise to your normal flow and demolish the competition.

Don't worry. Not all of Roger's fans are the same. Some are happy when he wins all these years and when he loses a couple of matches, they abandon him and criticise him. You can criticise Roger as his fan, that is your right. But if you become nasty and say that he should retire, you are not worthy of beeing his fan and you should leave his site.
True Roger fans stick by him during good times and not so good times, because there are no bad times. Thankfully not all Roger fans are s

Well Roger, now unfortunatelly you will be number 3, the same ranking that you had when you entered last year's Wibledon. If you trust in your tennis and play like you know how you will recover the number one spot closer to the end of the year. That will be4 ideal since you will equal Sampras' record on years finished as number one. You are playing just to enlarge your legend and also to beat rafa at RG, well Maestro, we will be cheering for you always and you will always surprise us.

Boting, what are you saying? If Federer is #3 and Nada #4, they could meet before the final in RG? I thought you know something about tennis....
