Out against Nadal

15.03.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The clash of the titans at Indian Wells turned out to be a non event – unfortunately with our Roger on the losing side against Rafa Nadal 4-6, 2-6. Our Champ – always the gentleman – refused to blame the problem with his back saying: "I'm happy to be out there and able to compete, but it's obviously a small issue," he said. "That doesn't work against guys like Rafa". He added, "you could see at least I could serve full basically, and that always gives you a direction". He also said that he didn't want to talk about his back too much "because I don't like to undermine his performance, either". Rafa was just as magnanimous in victory saying "if I think that I am better than him because I beat him 19 against 10, I will be very stupid and very arrogant," he said. "This is not the case."

Roger had a miserable match against his old foe with only a slight glimmer of hope in the second set to get to 2-3 from 0-3 but Nadal took the remaining games in the set to win the match. It has to be said to Roger’s immense credit that he continued to play when obviously hampered by injury. There are a lot of players who would have retired rather than battling on never mind fashioning a break so early in the second set.

Next up will be the Mutua Madrid Open in May.

Horrible Website...perhaps not necessary to have put that link in here. That kind of disgusting rubbish is best ignored.

Over the years Novak has shown that he can beat any opponent on any surface. Maybe his tennis do not like everyone, but he brings the title. He looks really powerful and ready for a big win and it will be hard to beat. Even Courier said that Novak at a higher level than other players. But I hope that Roger will have success against him and the others and win several major titles this year.

Roger: The only unbeatable player, independent of the surface, is you when you are at 100% physically and mentally, when you are in "the zone" even the best players of all times look pedestrian. you made djokovic look like an amateur at last years cincinatti and did the same to murray at WTF. Play like that in clay please, take it all. happy to ee you will not be using a polo, last time you wore a T-Shirt was in cincinatti and you won by losin only 30 games in 5 matches, astonishing.

But kudos to Novak. He IS the only guy who can beat Rafa.
Unfortunately don't think Roger could have if he played MC.

First set 6-2 for Novak. Could have bageled him though.

Boting, Novak is looking amazing and unbeatable.

Is it not amazing? Two so called injured guys running around the court like two not so injured guys.....

If Novak wins this, man, RG is going to be hard to win for Roger or Rafa.
