Out against Nadal

15.03.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

The clash of the titans at Indian Wells turned out to be a non event – unfortunately with our Roger on the losing side against Rafa Nadal 4-6, 2-6. Our Champ – always the gentleman – refused to blame the problem with his back saying: "I'm happy to be out there and able to compete, but it's obviously a small issue," he said. "That doesn't work against guys like Rafa". He added, "you could see at least I could serve full basically, and that always gives you a direction". He also said that he didn't want to talk about his back too much "because I don't like to undermine his performance, either". Rafa was just as magnanimous in victory saying "if I think that I am better than him because I beat him 19 against 10, I will be very stupid and very arrogant," he said. "This is not the case."

Roger had a miserable match against his old foe with only a slight glimmer of hope in the second set to get to 2-3 from 0-3 but Nadal took the remaining games in the set to win the match. It has to be said to Roger’s immense credit that he continued to play when obviously hampered by injury. There are a lot of players who would have retired rather than battling on never mind fashioning a break so early in the second set.

Next up will be the Mutua Madrid Open in May.

Roger: you are the onlñy reason to wathc a tennis match, I just tried to watch part of the Motecarlo´s final and it was dreadfull, it took djokovic the advantage of a break to try to add some flair to the game, no agresiveness, no fancy sots, all patterns the same. please play estoril and then go on to take the whole remaining of the clay season. You are the greatest ever and the pick training at the alps shows that now your back is healed so you can play a lot and win a lot. always cheering.

My dearest Roger,
My heart bled when I have seen the way you were defeated by Nadal at Indianwells. Avenge all your losses to Nadal in no uncertain manner. In future your H2H with him should read something like 40 – 19 or even better in your favour.

Contd:- Study his game well and come up with a master plan to defeat him. His main strengths are his speed and high bouncing spin serve to your backhand, and clever placements of the ball on the court. Scuttle his speed, practice so well that any type of ball on to your backhand can be dealt severely with. Make even cleverer placements than him.

Contd:- You are getting unnerved when he is coming up with big shots and seemingly great retrievels. Do not lose confidence at that juncture but be steady and calm and try to overcome the crisis. It is not easy to defeat Nadal, he is one of the best players on the tour, therefore you have to play your best and fight for each and every point tooth and nail. In the ultimate analysis, you can defeat him because your game is superior to him.

Contd:- Nadal’s modesty is as fake as his so called knee injuries. Donot believe him on any count. On the court he is your rival and foe. Friendship is only off the court. He first tries to defeat you mentally and morally before actually defeating you. Donot fall into his trap. Be always one up than him.

There are always a few favorites to win a tournament. Roger's absence from the list of favorites, and the insertion of David, to me, makes no sense.
However, predictions are one thing and reality another. In June we will see who was right.
Roger, do not listen to what people say, train hard and enjoy in tennis.
See you soon.

Contd:- When you can not finish the point short, donot be afraid to be drawn into long rallies with him, hit always one more shot than him. Be patient. Donot fear exhaustion or worry over how to play the next match. Win over him can give you tremendous happiness and confidence to play your next match.

Contd:- Kindly cure yourself of your backpain. Health is first without it nothing exists. Please engage a very good Yoga trainer from India for few months. Later on you can practice it yourself once you get trained well.
Play like a maestro, which you are already and win the remaining grandslams of the year-2013. You can and will do it. May God bless you no end and shower His choicest blessings on you. Godspeed.
Thanking you,
Yours lovingly,
Rajashekar.

Best thing to do is ignore every prediction and just wait and see how things
will show in Paris.
