In control

08.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger made a successful start after a break of several weeks, defeating Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-3 at the Madrid Open.

"I didn't think I played incredible, but that's not what I was expecting myself to do here. But I didn't play bad, either. So I'm very happy with how things went today. Stepanek is a player who can cause a lot of difficulties in the game. He has caused me difficulties in the past. Today that wasn't the case. I thought I was pretty much in control," Roger said after the match.

It didn't take long for Roger to get into the rhythm of his game, cruising past stepanek in 81 minutes. He will now either play Japan's Kei Nishikori (ATP 16) or Viktor Troicki of Serbia (ATP 44).

Hey guys,
Please don't get me wrong! I absolutely worship this man! I can't believe how upset I am! But let me make it clear, when I make the assumption regarding the appearance fee, I don't want to believe it!!! But I'm just trying to find the reason why our man has had weeks off, he played yesterday with the fight and determination and the. Federer magic and today he can be so far the opposite ???

Shadow and dust,

Believe me I am disappointed too, but I KNOW he will bounce back. He does that every year since he started. That is why I am not giving up on him.
And the second set he played was terrific, the third set he played was bad. Important thing is that he knows that too and will make sure it does not happen all the time. And besides, it was not like Kei was playing bad, he was good too.

Yes, he did seem to hand over the game to. Murray at the Olympics but he had just won Wimbledon and being the gent that he is I could see him doing that. But this time is different, he hasn't won anything, he's had loads of time off, he came out yesterday looking amazingly confident and he played with fire in his belly, which he is more than capable of but today !!! !!! I just don't get it ! Unless he is just there for the appearance, which is a wild assumption I know!

Shadow and dust,

My comment was more for Tawfikao who is just to discusting.
And be honest, some of the other comments of the fans are too hard too.
Don't get me wrong, I am angry too. I saw the first set and the second set.
I was so angry what Roger did in the third set, but the important thing is that HE is not happy losing too. And why al this talk about the fee? He has more money than he can spend in some lifetimes. He could stop playing, but he wants to keep playing.

Rachel reading the posts here, there are many, not all, that are currently have become temporarily disillusioned with his performance today, including me. That shows how much we disillusioned fans care for him. That he can play so badly, well quite frankly, he deserves the current criticism.

I have just seen the score. I suppose it could have been even worse!

Rachel and Fancyfree

Can't you see that he himself is not happy that he lost?
Can't you see that he was not happy himself the way he played the first and third set? Why this talk about appearance fee?

He lost the match, he was not happy with that and now he will be back. So simple as that.

Just because fans are dissapointed at. Rogers game doesn't mean that we don't love him still.
It's ok to be a little angry with people you love, like. Roger himself says , he doesn't like 'yes men'
Roger is the. GOAT. But today we are all feeling a little upset because we want to witness his greatness and see him win !

Yes Rachel. I tend to think that's a possibility. The same way that Roger perhaps handed Andy Murray the gold medal last year at The Olympics so so easily.

If you are right, then Roger does all his fans a great disservice.
