In control

08.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger made a successful start after a break of several weeks, defeating Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-3 at the Madrid Open.

"I didn't think I played incredible, but that's not what I was expecting myself to do here. But I didn't play bad, either. So I'm very happy with how things went today. Stepanek is a player who can cause a lot of difficulties in the game. He has caused me difficulties in the past. Today that wasn't the case. I thought I was pretty much in control," Roger said after the match.

It didn't take long for Roger to get into the rhythm of his game, cruising past stepanek in 81 minutes. He will now either play Japan's Kei Nishikori (ATP 16) or Viktor Troicki of Serbia (ATP 44).

Roger: I was surprised to hear you lost, I watched the second set and you were in control and playing at your rythm. Unfotunately unforced errors came in a bad time of the match. Please stay focus,. you can play a whole game like you played the second set, or the tie breaks in AO or the first set against Berdych in Dubai. You are the best of all times, be agressive, trust in your tennis and use all your effects. Ifyou do that you will take the remainder of the clay season, always rooting.

Roger shd reduce photo / ad sessions, practise more else take a proper graceful exit. Still find it difficult to take his loses. In NYTimes it has come out it seems that if playing in the ATP 1000 tournaments was based on same year points, i.e 2013 - Roger will not qualify in any........why let these guys make this type of comments. If continue playing - play 100% 2 the extent possible, else come out.....

last year this time roger had won rotterdam, dubai, indian wells, and then won madrid. so it's different this year so far. i'm sure he expected himself to do better by now. hard to jump in after 2 months off. i expect he will do better going forward. he has won so much in his career and given his fans so much to cheer about. i'm a fan forever and will cheer for him whenever he plays. wishing him better luck the rest of the year. love him win or lose.
