Roger upset in Madrid

10.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat against Kei Nishikori at the Madrid Open.

"Kei played better than I did, so the better guy won today, that's for sure. I'll sit together tonight or tomorrow with the team and discuss what the plan is for the next few days and weeks. So I'm excited for that, because clearly I have no choice but to hit the practice courts," Roger said.

Roger struggled with the conditions in Madrid as breezes and shady patches hit the court. He displayed good tennis during several phases but was not constant enough overall, battling with uncharacteristic errors. After losing the first set, he upped his game to level but lost his serve early in the decider and Nishikori broke for a third time in the match to seal victory.

This loss is not hurting me, but something else is hurting me. I just want see him playing tennis and if he has no wins, I think he will quit playing tennis, and tennis is nothing without him. O God, this is killing me!!!!!

A fantastic tennis in the 2nd set, we all thought, Roger returns, weel done, but this too early brake in the 3rd, obliged Roger to fight with breezes and shady patches as Nadal and Ferrer today could not be this avoid with the roof?
Thank you for such magical hours, already excititded to see you in Rome

Hola Roger!!!

Winning Cincinnati guaranteed Roger 300 weeks as No. 1. Last nine months he has not won any tournament. This year Roger has only 1,215 ranking points -- his worst start since the year 2000 (using today's ranking system, he had 1,235 points at this time in 2001). Roger is too distracted with the ATP Player Council president (searching for new ATP CEO? more player prize money?), sponsor commercials/activities, exhibition tour, charity foundation, family/vacations, etc. And lost some motivation.

It looks as if winning on the ATP tour is no longer Roger's priority, despite his talk. Lately he has lacked the extra 2% to 5% to win some matches. Yet it is obvious from his other matches this year that Roger is still too good not to be winning more matches and tournaments. It's too early for Roger to slow down. Around the world there are hundreds of millions of family men who work hard 10 to 15 hours each day from their teens to their sixties. Less talk, Roger. More focus, heart, effort pls.

Dearest Roger,
I am so sorry for the loss. But being you, I am sure you will work out some way and come back strong. This was only your second match on clay.
By the way, I don't think Roger was making excuse by mentioning weather conditions. Remember, last year's blue clay. Some players complained a lot about it, but Roger NEVER did. I hope fans have better memory.
