Roger upset in Madrid

10.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat against Kei Nishikori at the Madrid Open.

"Kei played better than I did, so the better guy won today, that's for sure. I'll sit together tonight or tomorrow with the team and discuss what the plan is for the next few days and weeks. So I'm excited for that, because clearly I have no choice but to hit the practice courts," Roger said.

Roger struggled with the conditions in Madrid as breezes and shady patches hit the court. He displayed good tennis during several phases but was not constant enough overall, battling with uncharacteristic errors. After losing the first set, he upped his game to level but lost his serve early in the decider and Nishikori broke for a third time in the match to seal victory.

Dear Roger,

Well, that was unexpected. After you'd won the second set I was sure the match would be yours. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. I guess all your fans were feeling down yesterday. But today is a new day, soon antoher tournament starts and there's always a chance to bounce back :) Judging form what you said, you know what you should do to play better in Rome. Hopefully you will be as motivated as always :)

We are all with you, good luck and come back strong!

Love,
J

telling that the opponent played better is not enough, Roger! we were expecting you to defend the title and also take avenge on Rafa of your IW loss in the quarter finals! Rome is again a difficult task ahead, you haven't won it there, however, keep faith on you specially when its in the short supply is all we could do!

I did not expect victory in Madrid, because of the long break. But I did not expect this early defeat.
I sincerely hope that you will find the right form and we will be happy soon.
Best of luck, Roger.

Dear Roger
I'm very sorry for you, but it couldn't be! You had a good, long break, but you were injured (back). So, lack of matches was obvious, even when such a great player, as you are, plays! I hope you will have more luck in Rome and RG especially!
I like your approach to disscuss the plan and play!!!
You should only be healthy and fit.
Wish you all the best and good luck dearest Roger!
Go, Roger, gooooooooooooooo!
Love, Mimi
