Roger upset in Madrid

10.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat against Kei Nishikori at the Madrid Open.

"Kei played better than I did, so the better guy won today, that's for sure. I'll sit together tonight or tomorrow with the team and discuss what the plan is for the next few days and weeks. So I'm excited for that, because clearly I have no choice but to hit the practice courts," Roger said.

Roger struggled with the conditions in Madrid as breezes and shady patches hit the court. He displayed good tennis during several phases but was not constant enough overall, battling with uncharacteristic errors. After losing the first set, he upped his game to level but lost his serve early in the decider and Nishikori broke for a third time in the match to seal victory.

Dear Roger,
I guess this is only psychological not physical because I still believe you are the best.
Please bring on the eagerness that you showed in the final of ATP world tour Final last year. please.

Hi Roger so sorry to see you didnt make it past Kei. Of course if you had one then it would have justified your strategy of the 2 month break! It seemed to work for you last year but maybe not this time. Kei is a top player and is really match fit which maybe you were not, and really went for the win. You say you have no choice but to hit the practice courts but you were surely doing this at home! Is it partly a case of lack of true match practice on the tour itself?

Good luck,
Mike

Disappointing to see you suffering an early exit again this year. But you are still our champ. Roger you have to defend stack of points ahead till wimbledon. So avoid such early exits because if you ranking slipped out of top four it will be very difficult for you to go deep in draws. So i hope you will come back strong and prove your critics wrong again. Good luck for Rome!

I am sure, you will not let this happen again. I am confident that you will find ways to win in tough situations like yesterday, and will go on to win more titles. We are all with you Rog. Stay positive. Fight hard. You can do it. We wish to see more % of your first serves in and opponents are half defeated if that happens. Rest all will be a formality.
