Roger upset in Madrid

10.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 defeat against Kei Nishikori at the Madrid Open.

"Kei played better than I did, so the better guy won today, that's for sure. I'll sit together tonight or tomorrow with the team and discuss what the plan is for the next few days and weeks. So I'm excited for that, because clearly I have no choice but to hit the practice courts," Roger said.

Roger struggled with the conditions in Madrid as breezes and shady patches hit the court. He displayed good tennis during several phases but was not constant enough overall, battling with uncharacteristic errors. After losing the first set, he upped his game to level but lost his serve early in the decider and Nishikori broke for a third time in the match to seal victory.

Tricky draw in Rome, Roger. Maybe it will take you a while to get back into form, but I have a feeling this is going to be a period of turbulence in tennis, a few changes anyway. But somewhere along the line there's another slam awaiting you. Good luck in Rome - may the Roman gods smile upon you. xxx

Yeah definitely, but for Rogi reaching finals is very important, once start leaving early then its whole different feeling, correct me if I'm wrong, Sampras lost to Rogi in 4th round he decided to quit, now look at Nadal he played 7 tours on return and reached all 7.

Don't get emotional dear, I only said his friend Stan is doing better than him. Every rise has a fall. Its better that we accept it. I'm not writing off Roger for the rest of the season but its difficult for him to comeback.

But I still pray for his success.

The same thought came to my mind. He seemed to go into a training mind set and could not get into the aggressive rhythm of a tournament. Also, after two months off from a tournament, he was severely rusty at receiving and returning very fast, powerful serves. It is a great shame he could not stay in the tournament long enough to play through these things, which I think is what Roger was hoping for. I am sure he trained very hard in those 2 months. Come on Roger, you will win again!!

Sorry you lost, your main weapon failed and the unforced errors at crucial stage cost you the match ,but don't be upset, you have now promised us to hit the practice courts ,please do it. Quality of the game has very much improved ,there are quite a few in the circuit who can make surprises ,there fore, hard work, confidence and fighting spirit are needed to win the tournament, stay focussed from start to finish,go for it .wish you all the best in Rome

I'm sad that Rog was not able to repeat last year, but glad to see his compatriot Stan in the final and wish him all the best - go for it Stan, you could do it!

Are you normal? I don't think so.
