Roger flies into next round

19.03.2008 | Tennis

Roger dispatched Nicolas Mahut 6-1 6-1 at the Pacific Life Open on Tuesday for his 19th successive win over a Frenchman.

Our star hit nine aces and lost only four points on serve in the 54-minute match. The world No. 1's last loss to a Frenchman was in April 2005 to Richard Gasquet. He's 33-1 against Frenchmen since 2003.

"It was a perfect match, really, for me," our champion said. "I'm feeling like I'm playing good tennis again. I feel like I did at the Australian Open after my first couple of matches. But this time I'm more sure I'm over the sickness, whereas in Australia it was quite extreme," he said.

In the fourth round, Roger will face Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Spain's Tommy Robredo.
