In quarters

17.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Our Champ has just come through the 3rd round of the Rome masters in fine style against Gilles Simon 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour. Simon put up a spirited resistance at 2-4 in the second set that produced an 11 minute game but Roger’s shot-making was in fine form and he won out to finish the match with no further problem. Roger stats showed that he finished up with 75% of first serves in and winning 73% of first serve points – impressive by anybody’s standards.

Next up will be Jerzy Janowicz (ATP 24).

Let's not hear any more about retirement...... Roger plays because he loves to play. They all want to win, but why should anyone give up because of a few losses? Who'd ever win anything if they were that timorous?!

GREAT WIN Roger.... Never doubted you'd win, you are far more crafty than Jerzy, but he has a tough game and surely a great future. I suspected Jerzy would choke end set 1, and he did the same when serving for set 2. That's the problem with playing Roger......

TUNA4444,

Have you looked at Roger's stats when he played Potito, Simon and Jerzy?? Is that not close to perfect? Have you seen how much trouble Rafa is getting when he is playing?? If Roger makes it to the final he has a pretty good chance to beat Rafa.

And don't forget, who would have thought Berdych would win, especially after the first set. Who says Rafa will win???
You don't know that.

And who are you to say that if Roger loses again against Rafa he should retire after Wimby? If he gave a crap about the H2H, not only should he have retired but also Ferrer, Murray, Djoko, Berdych and the rest. Doesn't Rafa have a winning record against almost everyone? And when he lost all those time to Davydenko, should Rafa have retired too? That is the game, you win some, you lose some. Rafa has a positive H2H against all, but still he hasn't got as many titles as Roger. RAFA IS BEATABLE

KEMNA, YES I AGREE WITH YOU. I WAS WRONG ABOUT THAT. BUT I THINK THAT NOW IS THE LAST CHANCE FOR ROGER TO SHOW HIS TEETH, TO SHOW THAT HE IS STILL HERE, TO GAIN HIS CONFIDENCE, AND OF COURSE TO WIN AGAINST NADAL. I KNOW THAT H2H IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, BUT BELIEVE ME, ROGER IS HURT WHEN HE SEE THAT. HIS WILL TO CRUSH HIM MUST BE ENORMOUS, OR I THINK THAT HE WOULD STOP PLAYING TENNIS ALREADY.

TUNA4444,

just like Roger is beatable on grass and many players have his number, so IS Rafa beatable on clay and many, many players have his number now too. Look at Zeballos, Tsonga, Dimitrov, Gulbis, Djokovic and Ferrer and Roger.
Rafa may have won a lot this year, but it is getting harder and harder for him. Some players actually believe they can win from him on clay. Have you looked at the stats against Gulbis? This time Rafa won, but will he win again against Gulbis? I don't think so.

OAKEL123 and TUNA4444

Have a little faith in the guy. Did you not have to eat your words now he won?

And TUNA4444, what a ridiculous remark about losing better now than against Rafa.
If that is the way you feel than why does any player bother to play against Rafa?
And that H2H is mostly clay. Besides, if you have noticed this year, Rafa is winning a lot on clay, but it IS getting harder for him to win. It is not a given anymore. He has been outplayed many times but has still won.

I will say only this. If he will make it to the final against Rafa, he must kill him on the court and win. If he loses it is better that he retire after the Wimbledon. Now or never. Roger, you must avenge all that loses against him. It is enough. It is time that you lounch him on Mars. Now or never Roger !!! Forget the friendship, don't be nice. Crush him in the way that he will never forget. I don't hate nobody, but it is time that you show yout teeth. Now or never Roger ! Good luck !
