Roger loses Rome final

19.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger lost the final in Rome against Rafael Nadal 1-6, 3-6 in only 68 minutes and therefore our champ is still not able to add the Rome title to his long list of trophies.

The stats of the game tell two different stories – yes they tell you that Rafa Nadal won 6-1, 6-3 but they also say that Roger had 32 unforced errors to Rafa’s 8 during a match that lasted 1 hour 8 minutes. Another telling stat was that our Roger only won 55% of his first serves – down from 73% in his match against Simone. There was a glimmer of hope in the second set when Roger won 2 games in row to go from 1-5 to 3-5 with some brilliant shot making. Unfortunately in the last game our champ had two unforced errors and at 0-40 Nadal sent down a good serve to clinch the Championship. As ever Roger was gracious at the end complementing Rafa on the way he played.

Next up are the French Open, starting next Sunday.

Dear Rogerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

I know how much you love the sport and how many fans want you to win the matches. We love the way you play. This time we heard that you changed your tactics but they did not work against Rafa. Anyway, I hope you learned something to do better next time, as there is always a next time for a great player like you. Good Luck, we are with you, always!!!

Hi Roger,

I read about your tactics in the match and I just want to encourage you to keep playing aggressively against Rafa Nadal - that is the only way you can beat him!

I'm really happy that you've found some good form before the French Open. I wish you all the best this year!

Go grab Grand Slam Number 18!

. I watched him play live 3 times already before he decides to hang up his racket and I will continue to do so as long as I can afford it. He indicated his desire to play until Rio Olympics, better still if he can continue beyond. Fans, that’s a celebration! Just enjoy his tennis. We all want him to win, so do I.

Seriously I do not know what some of the fans on this site want from Roger Federer especially at this stage of his tennis career. U know, those who have watched Roger play from the beginning are very lucky people. I don’t watch sports at all but I was introduced to Roger Federer’s world of tennis 5 years ago and since then I never miss any of his matches. I have my fair share of heartaches but the sheer joy derived from watching him play far outweighed those unfortunate losses. I watched him

MI5, I just read this article and thought it was a very interesting view of the match also. I just hope that Roger is able to implement it better in Roland Garros. Like all changes, it is practice and repetition that makes it easier to replicate when it counts.

MI5
Thank you for that article. I think it is about right and also very positive. Many times in that match I felt Roger was doing the right thing, but the shots did not go right for him and just became an error statistic. Maybe, at let us hope and pray, with time and practise, Roger will get more used to that way of playing and make it work. He was more successful towards the end of the second set, that gives me heart for Paris. I still, very much believe in Roger.

So good to see you trying out new tactics against Rafa. With more practice, I believe you can figure out a way to beat him. Score wasn't great, but anytime I get to watch you play I consider it a privilege. Good luck at RG.
