Roger loses Rome final

19.05.2013 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger lost the final in Rome against Rafael Nadal 1-6, 3-6 in only 68 minutes and therefore our champ is still not able to add the Rome title to his long list of trophies.

The stats of the game tell two different stories – yes they tell you that Rafa Nadal won 6-1, 6-3 but they also say that Roger had 32 unforced errors to Rafa’s 8 during a match that lasted 1 hour 8 minutes. Another telling stat was that our Roger only won 55% of his first serves – down from 73% in his match against Simone. There was a glimmer of hope in the second set when Roger won 2 games in row to go from 1-5 to 3-5 with some brilliant shot making. Unfortunately in the last game our champ had two unforced errors and at 0-40 Nadal sent down a good serve to clinch the Championship. As ever Roger was gracious at the end complementing Rafa on the way he played.

Next up are the French Open, starting next Sunday.

Murray and Delpo pulls out of RG... It seems like they are more focused on the second half of the season and getting ready for the Grass and Hard court swing. Interesting!!! Its a 3-way battle at RG now. Though Nadal is the heavy favorite, I somehow feel Novak is gonna nail it this time. Of course, our Fed can surprise everyone big time, if he gets a nice day when he faces those guys... We'll see. Go Roger! Get things straightened out at RG this time...

@ROBBA Don't hope like this, instead pray for fed that he can beat RN at least once in RG...

Roger is losing against Rafa before the match... Rafa may be in better form than Roger, but this does not explain the nature of defeat. The scoreline would have been entirely different if Roger was 50%; that was not even 10% of Roger Federer. It's a peculiar kind of mental block which Roger is not being able to overcome over the years. He also tends to commit unfrcd errs at crucial points (remember Djoko match in atp finals). But against Nadal it's a completely separate thing and it's fatal.

Interesting article: http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2013/05/21/Brain-Game-Rome-Federer-Nadal.aspx

I must admit I didnt see the whole match after I saw where the 1st set was heading but it looks like, surprisingly enough, Roger had a very interesting game plan against Nadal which was very different to his usual tactic when he had played against him in the past.

Its painfull that RF loses so many times against RN who is less tallented.
I've read in several articles that the tactic was correct.
Hope he can finetune his play and downgrade the errors.

And for once i am hoping for a good draw in France, RF vs ferrer please!

... have faith and hope for Roger. He is not done yet and he will surprise us again.
I promise that.

And please don't even get me started on the match (Gulbis) the man who had 1000 winners more and still Rafa won !!!

I do believe this: Up till last year I KNEW Rafa was unbeatable, but this year: Zeballos, Tsonga, Dimitrov, Delpo, Novak, Ferrer .... and keep hope Roger will be in that line too.

Roger has to go for it and defeat Rafa, because Rafa will be everywhere in Roger's draw !!!
