Roger marches into final!
It took Roger just 1h 23mins today to blow away Andy Roddick 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, advancing to the Australian Open final. The American had beat Roger just two weeks ago, but did not stand a chance this evening with Roger playing one of his best matches ever.
He ran off 11 consecutive games against sixth-seeded Roddick. Seeking his 10th Grand Slam title, he blunted Roddick's powerful serve and whipped passing shots seemingly at will. He made 7 out of 7 break points – against one of the best servers in the world. "I had one of these days when everything worked, I was unbeatable," Roger said. "It's just unreal. I am shocked myself, I don't know what to say. The tournament is not even over yet. Let me do it one more time."
Roddick, who often stared at Roger as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing, won only nine of his 31 approaches to the net, and had only 11 winners. Roger had 45 winners and just 12 unforced errors. He was virtually untouchable as he reached his seventh consecutive Grand Slam final to equalize Australian Jack Crawford’s record in Slam sequence set back in 1933-34.
Roger will play the winner of Friday's semi-final between Chilean 10th seed Fernando Gonzalez and Germany's Tommy Haas, the 12th seed, in the final, where he’s given the chance of repeating Bjorn Borgs performance in 1980 when the Swede won a Grand Slam Title without set loss.
